can you get a private beach to quarantine on?
|
I’d be keen for a beer at Dukes & at steak at Hys .... hopefully one day soon ...

You’ll need a proven negative test (not sure how long in advance of travel) to avoid the quarantine is what I’m hearing... That’s an improvement and a welcome relief to many in the tourist businesses who have been dead in the water with no income at all for many weeks.
This seems a much more sensible approach than the mandatory 14-day quarantine “no matter what!” |
What are the limitations to this quarantine? Can you rent a house and stay there for 14 days, or dose it need to be a patrolled hotel room on Waikiki? We rented a waterfront house in Ewa Beach, and I would be fine spending 14 days in that backyard sitting there watching the neighbors spearfish...

I think it’s your choice if where to stay but you won’t be able to go anywhere even for meals, etc. is my understanding. I know several people got the dime dropped on them by hotel staff who observed people going out for various things. Maybe an Airbnb would be different but I’d just get the test and be done with it - assuming the date doesn’t get pushed out again, which wouldn’t surprise me either...

FDA-approved PCR test from a CLIA certified laboratory ...

As for the quarantine, there is a group on the lookout for the quarantine breakers that works directly with the Attorney General's office. If quarantined, you can't even go out to get food. You need to have it delivered by Uber Eats, Door Dash, Grubhub... You can stay at a regular hotel, or at a rental. If at a hotel, those with electronic key cards, will give you a single use key card. You go out, you are locked out. You ask the front desk for a new card and they may call HPD on you. If you are caught and arrested, you can post bail of $2k or more and be released. However, that release usually means being taken to the airport and put on a plane. Also, if you are caught, there is a very good chance your name and picture will be in the news media. |
Are they called the Stazi by any chance?
Doesn’t anyone else think this is getting a bit too 1984 for comfort? |
Well, we have had a very low infection rate in Hawaii. A lot of that has to do with cutting down on travelers. Until May, I believe our infections were from travel. Then we started getting the community borne infections. Both visitors and tourists have been arrested for violating the quarantine orders.

The group is called the Hawaii Quarantine Kapu Breakers, or something like that. It is run by a former investigative reporter.
