Sorry
I believe I've been mistaken on my quiz, as I took these pictures many many years ago and was certain this was Dave Roper's bike. (He won the 1984 Isle of Man 500cc senior
race.) So my quiz answers were Dave Roper and Team Obsolete. Roper only american to win Isle of Man. How ever I now believe this bike did indeed belong to one of the two McLean's mentioned above. My apologies and I am sorry for wasting your time, I should have checked my facts. These pics are from a race in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, Canada many years ago. I also saw Mr. Roper race at the Daytona vintage races in the 90's. Roper was a fantastic rider and I admired him and his beautiful arsenal of motorcycles. Again, sorry. Here's some pics http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593213851.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593213948.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593214038.jpg |
Dave Roper at Team Obsolete is the current Matchless G50 hero. Him and his team have substantially improved upon the weak points of the machine, turning it into a reliable racer. He regularly does quite well at races like the TT Classic.

That's Agostini a few pics back. |
Cycle World had a great write-up a few years ago on the team and on what they had done to the G50 to make it reliable.
