Belicheck got our Fig Newton....

If Cam gets over the foot injury that has disabled him the past couple of years.... watch out. He's matured, and is potent when healthy...

I just wish Carolina had Brady in return :D...

1990C4S 06-29-2020 03:23 AM

This will be interesting. A QB with 'slightly' different skills after all these years with Brady....

mattdavis11 06-29-2020 03:58 AM

Unless Bill deviates from his preferred style of offense, Cam won't work out well. He lacks the accuracy necessary to deliver to receivers in a well timed offense.

It's good to hear he is not unemployed though.

GH85Carrera 06-29-2020 05:05 AM

Ah, you guys are talking in code. I guess it has something to do with playing a child's game with a ball.

Carry on.

sammyg2 06-29-2020 05:07 AM

They'll be lucky to make the wildcard game with that guy, but likely won't win it.
Bad move.

cabmandone 06-29-2020 05:13 AM

I say good move. The guy is a proven winner. Sure he's had some rough seasons over the last few years but still a solid QB. NE is all about the "system". Cam has the physical attributes to be able to fit into that system and excel.

peppy 06-29-2020 06:24 AM

They signed him for pennies....1 million for 1 year

That's minumum....he's been making 20M a year the last few, and Carolina is probably paying him a chunk on the last year of his contract.... he ain't hurting ;). After a year, if his foot has healed .... cha-ching ...

Cam will adapt, Belichick will use his skills in a "new system", and once he learns how to cheat .... watch out ;)!

Injured.... Cam was a passing liability....healthy... he's a proven winner.... and mature now...

I'll be watching Tampa and the Patriots.... Carolina who :D?

In other news, https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/06/29/nfl-penalty-new-england-patriots-filming-cincinnati-bengals ...

sammyg2 06-29-2020 08:04 AM

Been discussed in previous threads, it was some dork making a documentary on scouts and unintentionally filmed something he wasn't supposed to as per league rules. He didn't even realize it but someone from sin-cinnati biched it and it got all blowed up.

Most other teams would have gotten a behind-the-scenes hand slap, but because they're the patriots they get fined and it makes headlines. Too many nancies out there complaining and making stuff up. The NFL gotta appease.

The fine is a drop in the ole bucket, maybe a few week's of jersey revenue.
The third round draft pick is peanuts, but not being able to film their own games for 2020 is bigly.
That is assuming they actually have games in 2020.

sammyg2 06-29-2020 08:12 AM

Cam is an athlete and won games 'cause he could run really fast.
That was his advantage when competing against passers and it was a big deal.
But if a runner is lame, he caint run no mo.
And if he caint run, then he would have to learn to pass like Brady and not even belechick is that good.
Carolina wasn't.

Hopefully for the patriots he'll be all healed up and can still scramble and gets lots of first downs and points with his legs.
If not, he'll throw too many balls to the wrong team and end up carrying a clip board for a million dollars.

I do not know the details of his injury, but know enough that it is likely to have an adverse impact on his running ability.

Seahawk 06-29-2020 10:32 AM

Cam Chowdar!

His best year was with Norv Turner as the OC. Cam's issues are not with his physical talent.

He basically didn't run the past 2-3 years... and thus was mediocre as QB.... some type of surgery...

Time will tell... for just a million bucks, Belichick's made a cheap gamble.

Cam has matured... though he still dresses like Rooster the pimp :D

How long will it take Bellibuttchek to teach him all the skills the team exemplifies?

I mean the cheating skills, of course.

and sammy, the NFL does not agree with you

coldstart 06-29-2020 10:42 AM

As much as I dislike the Patriots-- Great pickup. I think he has all the physical tools to succeed in New England. BB will keep him inline and they will likely challenge the Bills for the division.

If not, a league minimum salary is an absolute no risk situation. Cam will be playing with a major chip on his shoulder and will be ready, if there is a season.

Tobra 06-29-2020 11:46 AM

He had an injury to the Lis Franc's joint, which is in the middle of your foot. Not the sort of thing that responds well to treatment. If he had fusions done at the base of his metatarsals, it would be stable but sort of stiff. Would definitely leave you with a hitch in your getalong.

The whole NFL? Color me shocked. Why am I the last to hear about this?
You'd think that at least one of the teams would have the common courtesy to let me know.
Well if that's how they are going to act, then I have nothing more to say to them. They are officially on their own from now on!

BTW please don't tell Jameiyoius Winston or RG III what I said about scrambling and running QBs who looose their magic after they are slowed by a knee or leg injury. I wouldn't want then to think I jinxed them.
You can tell Vick I said that tho, screw him.
There was another guy who played for the Texas longhorns in a game they stole from USC back in 2005 or 2006, he went onto play in the NFL as a running QB. Can't remember his name right now, but he didn't last long after he got hobbled. That story did not end well.

Young! ya, that's it. Vince Young. Another one of them the NFL doesn't agree with me on.
Wasn't that Mr johnny football guy 'sposed to to run a bit too? Didn't last long enough to find out but he had other issues.

RWebb 06-29-2020 12:15 PM

The teams told tabs and figured that he would tell you

sammyg2 06-29-2020 12:31 PM

Somehow I KNEW TABS was to blame for all this.

Mr. newton has thrown for 182 touchdowns and 108 intercepts in his NFL career. Not zackly stellar.
Note that his last four seasons were even worse (65 TDs and 44 ints, for a percentage of 68%. one of the worst in the entire league). But you didn't hear it from me
Stats like that got Mark Sanchez a job in the booth.
In fact, Sanchez had a career TD/INT ratio that was darn near 30% BETTER than Cam's.
But Sanchez couldn't run. Can Cam?
With stats like that I sure hope so.
