Braid fishing line.

it is mind boggling the leaps/bounds the fishing line industry has taken.

i grew up on Trilene XT or something like that. 10lb mono. i kinda stopped fishing when Spiderwire (spiderline?) showed up. i remember trying some and a snagged lure is a nightmare.

now? mind blown! i lost some bass lately with my self declared vow to stay with 4-lb mono on a tiny spin caster. i spooled up with 10lb yellow high-vis braid and did a 6lb flouro top-shot to hide the presentation. i'll try it tomorrow if i can get out of work.

yesterday, a buddy thru open a box and offered me all his baitcasters. i took two. he switched to a lefty reels and never looked back. i ended up with some md range LEWS reels. now to figure out how to line them.

any suggestions? LEWs reels have a tiny line capacity. 12lb/120 yards.

If you aren't accustomed to using a bait caster, start with cheap line. You'll thank me later.

thanks. i get it. i'm pretty decent with a baitcaster.

i get more wind knots trying the spin caster. but i get it. my first cast with the new baitcaster will be "with caution".

I've used Stren mono 10# almost exclusively on my Diawa/Shimano baitcasters, but they've been retired since I sold my bass boat a few years back. I've had some awesome backlash tangles over the years.... like when ya hit something unexpectedly . Houdini ain't got nuthin' on me ....

I only use lightweight spinners now pond fishing, but am a LOT more accurate with a baitcaster...

Fish ON ....

Vash, If you know of a really old fishing shop that has some Cortland braided line, I believe 21 pound test, that was made of "irish linen" made from flax, white with green specs? Made back in the 50's and 60's? Buy it! You've found gold...not for fishing, for the restoration of classic pool cues made by past masters. It was used as the wrap on cue butts.

The "irish linen" wrap made today just isn't the same...if you come across it, I could put you in touch with people who would love to have it.

I'm telling you that if you find a spool of the old linen braided line, it's worth a LOT of money to the right people. Kind of like finding a Balabushka cue worth thousands in a garage sale for $10. Unlikely you'd find any old Cortland...sorry I bothered you.

(edit) I suppose it's nice to know you can't run 3 balls..

I've gotten so lazy with fishing all I ever do for freshwater is wacky worm with a sweet tata pie rubber worm(Walmart special (strike master maybe)). Seems to always work for bass. Kayak is gold.

Good luck.

Sensitivity with braid is truly amazing. It’s nice too for drifting bait in current as you don’t need so much weight to keep it vertical.

It’s great stuff. Just mind it while handling with a fish on. It will cut you pretty quick.
