up in beer country, the hoosiers try to keep it simple... read this in the article this am. the artilcle is here https://www.msn.com/en-ca/health/medical/coronavirus-can-be-airborne-but-thats-not-how-it-typically-spreads-experts/ar-BB16BKUO?li=AAggNb9 and a portion is below:

What this means for everyday life

When it comes to daily life, experts say Canadians shouldn't get tripped up on the word "airborne" and should continue doing what they're doing — namely, physical distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed spaces and practising good hand hygiene.

On the public health level, the goal is to make the masses aware of the "most common way that COVID-19 is going to be transmitted," Kaul said.

"Let's not focus on preventing the very occasional transmission event that may happen through aerosol spread — let's focus on the great majority that's going to be transmitted through droplets."

Chakrabarti agrees and says we do not need to be overly concerned about aerosol transmission at this time.

"We know that even if there is a theoretical possibility of there being aerosol that is in the air that has some COVID-19 particles in it, it's irrelevant because what we've been doing is not airborne precautions," Chakrabarti said.

"And it's working."

AH, more satire...

Funny because it is full of self defeating logic.

good one.

As my family doctor said last week, the Chinese Virus is the most over-hyped health 'crisis' of all time. If you're under 70 years of age, your chance of dying from it is in the 1000ths of 1%. But math is hard and even those odds are enough to put the fear of Gaia in some people's minds. Under 50? Almost no chance. Over 70? You're still under a 1% chance. And these figures assume the inflated CDC body bag count is accurate. And for this, we've ruined the economy and caused countless health problems and other deaths due to lack of regular screenings and fear of going to emergency rooms or calling 911? We've lost all perspective.

Worth rereading.

I will note that it is rare that people point to the mask wearers who get infected.

OTOH when a person who openly shuns the mask-life gets the China virus, the mask-lifers have a GD party, celebrating "karma."

Such bad karma on the partiers part.

You wear a mask to protect others from your droplets.

Yeah... your idea of why masks are worn is why the country is f'ed up. This is no singular reason to wear a mask. If you are healthy and want to avoid getting the virus when around others, you wear a N95 or better. If someone doesn't have the virus, why would there be worry of them spreading the virus Shaun? Now I know there are asymptomatic cases, but in Island's telling about his mom, odds of her being asymptomatic are pretty slim since she's in the high risk category. She wore the right mask Shaun. She wore a mask that would protect her which is the primary goal for someone at risk. You don't know what you're talking about.

FWIW: A N95 mask with a port will allow droplets to escape. A cloth mask that doesn't seal around the face tightly, as in the masks that are being recommended for public use, will allow droplets to escape. In close quarters I'd rather have both people wearing a mask to reduce the spread.

island911 07-11-2020 10:57 AM

Exactly. If she had the virus (while immuno-suppressed) she would be done quickly.

Just the changing of masks in a hospital setting is risky. Then outftting her with what I expect was a cheapy surgery mask that VENTS OUT THE SIDES both in and out did her no favors (to put it mildly)

But again, hospitals are fishing for new customers.

They understand just fine Shaun, they are just being difficult as sport.

If someone is at high risk, an N95 makes perfect sense, also staying home and avoiding other people like the Chinese plague. If they *must go out in public, just slip a cloth or surgical mask over the N95 and you are golden. This protects yourself and others. It's not rocket science.

At this point the anti-mask folk don't want to hear data or see visualizations. It's all about emotion and they feel like they are being mask-raped when asked to wear one in enclosed public spaces. I especially liked the the little lady who refused to wear a mask, refused to leave Costco, laid down on the ground and had a 2 yr old temper tantrum while berating the employees. Classy!

It's still a free country so if you are emotionally challenged by wearing one, you are free to go without. Either stay home or avoid crowds and enclosed public spaces. A retail store is also free to refuse entry to those who choose to exercise their freedom not to wear a mask. "No shoes, no shirt, no mask, no service." Freedom is awesome and it works both ways.

I know but we really are a country of morons. Though if you think about it, maybe masks don't work at all. Just look at the explosion of cases in FL, AZ and TX. Clearly masks don't work.

Only in a country of morons would you keep seeing that ignorant pic over & over.

The naked virus particle is of little concern. The goal is to stop droplets and micro-droplets.

Masks protect the wearer AND others. See the research article I posted above.

Masks don't work at all. AZ, FL, TX are proof that masks don't work.

And if that high risk someone has been in isolation like most sensible high risk people have been, who are they putting at risk by wearing an N95? The answer... no one. As I said before, the ported N95 allows the release of droplets, the mask most people are wearing allows for the release of droplets. If I'm in an area where there are a lot of people, I'm wearing the one that best protects me from getting the virus.

You are certainly free to wear an N95 anywhere you think it is appropriate and a business is free to tell you to get stuffed if you try to walk in their store with only that mask on. Freedom is awesome like that.

No business owner is going to turn away a person wearing an N95. You mentioned emotion I think in your previous post. Your posts seem more emotion filled than fact filled. The fact is, both the N95 and the masks being suggested by the CDC allow droplets to escape. Do you homework.

The fines start at 50$ and go to 250$ for not wearing a mask in the large cities in AZ.

Everyone wears a f'ing mask...

LEAKYSEALS951 07-14-2020 06:15 PM

Where I live, masks use spotty at best. Gas stations, 7-11's auto parts stores, bars, very limited compliance among customers and staff. In advance auto the other day, few wearing anything. Many wear mask under nose/ etc. Numbers here beginning to climb. I'm amazed they aren't climbing higher.

Complete lack of hand hygiene at all locations. One store- people prepare food without mask or gloves- even w/o covid. wth?!?

Watched medical staff in adjacent building across parking lot eat lunch at picnic table today. No masks. No social distancing. No breeze. Crammed like sardines. "We're friends, so no danger here." Forget covid, I was scared the picnic table was going to collapse b/c of all the people on it.

In higher end stores, compliance goes up. In fancier grocery stores- about 80%?, but I'm not really seeing staff enforce anything. Since they aren't enforcing anything, they aren't differentiating between masks with exhaust valves vs. no exhaust valves. I see a lot of fancy stylish non n-95 masks with exhaust valves. At breweries, people get chatty. No masks. People I see with n95- about 50/50 exhaust vs no exhaust valve.

Hospitals enforce the exhaust valves. Here's what happens when a store employee attempts to enforce mask useage- Sorry for the FB link- here's your moment of mask enforcing zen. This was a local case. The upset individual had a history of temperamental issues, but still, a headache. Probably why a lot of stores just "let it go."

The mask-conformists feel really pissed off when others aren't also wearing an uncomfortable (yet minimally effective) mask. So the mask-conformists rant about how those "anti-mask folk" are "morons."

Look, all masks are not created the same. Yet the mask-conformists DEMAND that "masks work!" . . .without specificity.

That makes the claim "masks work!" either equivocation, at best, or emotional stupidity at worst.

island911 07-14-2020 06:52 PM

Once again, gear matters.
