Just used mine today successfully. Did they say why it was denied? They did put a policy in place not too long ago where your address in their system needed to match your ID.

Used it over the weekend. No problems. You need to verify your address (I forgot how) but once verified no trouble for me,

You need to create an account on Lowes.com and enter in your personal info (including address). That was a new policy this spring, and maybe that's what tripped you up.

My wife and I have been to three different Home Depots in the last three weeks and didn't have a problem getting our military discount. My wife went to Lowe's once and had no problem there either.

I had some trouble, maybe a year ago and had to take my DD214 by the store to straighten it out. Everything worked OK and when offered at the store chose to get receipts emailed to me. From a purchase a couple of weeks ago, the emailed receipt said to confirm my information.
I got on the site recommended on the receipt and could not get it to work. It had an old land line number (think from a previous myLowes card) and I changed it to the cell number I used at the store to access my account. The site turned me down and wanted more info, enlistment and seperation dates, etc. It would not take my entries, but I got my discount to work one more time. It was weird. For my cell phone number, the address was in an out of state town where a family member went to school 25 years ago. I told the sales person to try the next line with my address and it worked. Tuesday nothing would work, so I took documentation to customer service just like the website says for one of the ways to sign up. The lady says they no longer do it. I tried again on my computer and could not get verified, and was directed to upload my DD214. This old man finally figured out how to scan to a file and uploaded, but got no confirmation. look 171, I see Home Depot is messed up. The sad thing is I did a web search on my problem and a bunch of POed people were saying they were going to start going to Home Depot. I guess I'll have to go to the store to see if my discount works.

Have you checked your account on line? They recently had folks update them.

I think just a few people are having problems. Many of the ones that do are unhappily making it known on the internet with many threatening to go to Home Depot. I want to find somebody that had problems and fixed them.

drew1,
Yes, like you, I am apparently one of the few. After receiving the 10% military discount successfully in the past, I received a notice last year that my info had to be updated. I immediately went and verified everything and received a response that I was good to go. The next thing I see is that my discount is not being applied when I make an in-store purchase??? It is a waste to try to rectify this at the physical store when the transaction is made; instead, they will tell you that this must be corrected online... I went back home (without my discount), logged back into Lowes.com, and saw that everything is good. Something is amiss with their system. If you are able to straighten this out please let me know how to do this.

No guarantees, but calling them may work. I’ve either been very lucky or for SOME companies, they’re improving their live customer service.
I’ve had good luck with BestBuy and Bank of American in the last couple of weeks. I wasn’t forced to wait for a live person, they were attentive and efficient. |

10% off the purchase price before taxes is huge when you run the numbers on a low mark-up high volume item. Costco simply couldn't afford to do it.
I support all of our active duty and veterans. I support first responders and all the men in blue. And in these times I support grocery workers and all folks working in health care, especially those at the hospital and home care. Frankly I think the big box 10% discount is discriminatory. Not all had the chance to serve even if eligible at the time. I like to think of the millions of women who went to work for long hours during WWII filling in for men in service. They are far and few between now, but what did they get? They have/had medical issues but no Veterans Administration benefits for them including mortgage backing unless they survived a vet. I say end it. But that would be a public relations and marketing nightmare. They have few choices but to tighten things up a bit. It's a gift. If you don't get your gift, do whatever you have to do but stop whining. Lot's of people sacrificed in many ways. It's not just the military we need to honor and thank for their effort at one time or another. |

Lowes uses a third party service that verifies your status. If you account was older and had not been checked this way, they require new verification.
Now, when you request the discount in the store, they check your address against driver's license address. My accounts were messed up and I had several accounts for mil discount by different addresses and phone numbers. I had to fix this before I could get mine to work. One phone number and one address (same as on my driver's license)...and they verified the account online through the third party. The Omaha steaks discount (and others) work the same way. It is a great discount/benefit and I appreciate it and use it. Not because I need the discount, as I am likely wealthy compared to may that work and shop there...but, because I appreciate being honored for my service. It is not all about the money...and I appreciate the reserved spots even more. I am well rewarded for my years of service already...and it is the thought that counts.

Not to hijack this thread but I guess I am . . .
I generally do not use the reserved parking spaces Lowe’s has set aside for veterans, thinking a more senior vet could benefit from it more than I. Often I see people my Vet-Dar (Similar to Gay-Dar but identifies brothers in uniform) does NOT identify as a vet. Merely taking the good parking space. Pisses me off.

They are almost always empty where I shop and the handicapped spots are closer...so I am not too concerned. On the other hand, They are among the other spots...and I park away from other cars to preserve my paint job. If the lot is practically empty I will use one so that they do not seem unused.
I am not sure if I am an "older" vet or not. I don't think so...but I really don't see a lot of folks shopping at nine that are much older.

I guess I am confused as usual. After I applied on-line for my Lowes military discount some months back I received a My Lowes card in the mail. When I checkout I just have them scan the barcode on the My Lowes card an I get the 10% discount... no requesting the discount and no muss and no fuss .

That is the account we are discussing. If you have the card with you, it is supposed to work that way...but does not in some stores for some reason. Others ask for additional ID. If you go through a register and don't have the card with you, they will do it by phone number (also want ID to verify it is you)...but, lots of times, those accounts don't synch up. The store can fix if they know what they are doing...and want to.

Lowes verification starts with a phone number. My wife already had an account, so my disc was linked to her account with her phone #.
I just bought all my summer veggies there - no problem. HD still has verification at the registers without accessing the the account.

Thanks to all for responding. I am glad most have their discounts working OK.
Fireant, I still don't think that my discount will work. I was able to get an answer on the 800 number this afternoon, but it said a 45 minute wait. Tried uploading documentation on the website and this time did get a message accross the top "not verified". I have gotten no more responce from idSheer, who is doing the checking for Lowes. As some here said, some stores are different. Before posting here, I looked on internet and sites with Lowes employees said store manager can make a decision at the register. If you take documentation and ask for the manager, he may OK. Zeke, don't be jealous thinking you or discriminated against for not being a veteran and having the discount. I don't know if you did not go in the service by choice, physical condition, or criminal record. Lumber, HVAC, electric, and plumbing supply houses give double this discount to those who choose to pass the journeyman test and get a contractor's license. You could go this route. I feel honored to have been given the discount by Lowes and must have mistepped going through the hoops to keep it. At least I'm not lying by bragging about how much I support (veterans in the list) and then telling somebody that asks a question to stop whining.
