What's the best restaurant in your town?

This could be a great thread for the Pelican kingdom. Especially for when everyone is travelling.

It's hard to say in Houston, because there are many good restaurants, but if i was forced to pick just one for best food and service (and best for a date) with no mention of cost (the best isn't cheap), I would have to say Mark's.

Mark's American Cuisine, Houston, Texas

This place is very good and has great service. We had our wedding "reception" there and everyone loved and raved about the food and the service.

I suppose if you are a meat lover, Fogo de Chao is pretty tasty. There are plenty of other great restaurants if you are looking for a specific kind of food or concerned with price. I hear we have some pretty spectacular Chinese food, but I haven't been to that part of town to eat at them yet.

From my home town Hog & Hominy | Italian Cooking. Southern Roots. "Italian cooking southern roots" a can't miss if you go through Memphis.
Now live in the Austin area, not an easy question to answer. Best ramen ever Ramen Tatsu-Ya or Neapolitan pizza from a truck with a wood oven 40 North.

Via Roma, in Roseville. All hand made pasta and wonderful sauces. I hear their pizza is great too but I always get the pasta.

No way to say. They are adding new great restaurants on a daily basis now. Austin is spinning out of control, and I am checking out soon.

Okay, here's one to try:
The legendary Driskill Grill serves exquisite modern American cuisine Tuesday through Saturday. The Driskill Grill is a Four Diamond rated restaurant and is repeatedly ranked the number one restaurant in Austin. The Driskill Grill invites diners to feast on an ever-changing array of innovative and impeccably prepared fare in the most elegant of surroundings. The Driskill Grill uses locally grown products, seasonal ingredients and cutting edge menu choices which create a truly memorable dining experience.

Historically known as one of the most romantic spots in Austin, The Driskill Grill has been an Austin institution since 1929. Formerly The Driskill Dining Parlor, President Lyndon B. Johnson took future First Lady Claudia (Lady Bird) Taylor on their first date at the Parlor in 1934.

The Driskill Grill has received numerous awards and accolades including the coveted Foder's Choice Award, Zagat's ranking of "Extraordinary to Perfection" and OpenTable's Diners Choice Award. Wine Spectator, America's leading wine appreciation magazine has honored The Driskill Grill with their "Award of Excellence."

You'll need a reservation.

The Winds

Saturday at the Bar 2-5pm

The menu changes every 2 months. It's stupid expensive and the menu selections can be so-so or to die for. It's definitely the best restaurant in town, but we only have 4.

Had a great anniversary dinner with Mrs. Noah last night in West LA. Last month we had another fantastic dinner at a different place just a block away. How to choose just one?

Hudson's on the Bend is a Austin landmark, another experience to take in while you are here in October for the F1 race...

Probably not always, but I have heard that when SXSW, or some other large event is in town, these places become fully booked in advance. This would be true of F1 weekend as well.

It's not the best, but I tend to have a favorite and go there all the time, until I get a brand new favorite a couple of months later. At the moment it's a very funky place for Friday nights called Gypsy Kitchen.

Not my town, but maybe somebody will be in Oakland. Baywolf Restaurant has been my favorite restaurant for many years. They change their menu periodically as well, which is awesome.
