Animal predators
Anyone care to guess what did this?
Fox? Cat? Coyote? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1594865655.jpg Whatever it was dropped it when it heard the dog just now. |
It killed the pigeon by its head and started eating that first.
If it was bigger than a cat, it probably would have ran off with it. My guess is a hawk from above. |

Animal predators
Cats are the predominant bird predation source. Cat kill a lot of birds. That was likely a cat kill.

It could have been a fox. We have lots roaming around at night... Recently I built a chicken coop that fits the description of a bunker.
|
We are semi-rural.
Pet cats on my property aren’t really a thing. Deer otoh... Foxes, avian predators of all kinds, coyotes and the occasional bear are common. I suspect - from the lack of noise and the way the dog reacted - it was a fox, but wondered if anyone saw something in the way it was eaten that gave away what it was. |
When we have a chicken that ends up like that, it is generally a mink/weasel...they love eating the brain/blood only. A raccoon will eat the majority of the bird, and a fox will drag it away to eat in peace.
