problem accessing Pelican forums
For the last four days, I have been unable to access the Pelican forums with any browser. The main parts site works perfectly, however. I assumed the forum web servers were down (the message I get with Firefox is "unable to connect", Chrome has a similar message).
On a whim, I tried using my work laptop. When connected to my work VPN, I can access the site!. If I terminate the VPN connection, I get the "unable to connect" error. Has anyone else experienced access problems of this nature? Hugo |
That's weird. I'm on the other side of the planet and I rarely have issues.
If the site goes down then yes but otherwise it's always here. |
I use Chrome...haven't had any problem.
You've tried clearing browsing data? |

This is very strange. It's the only site I visit that is having this problem. |
I figured it out.
The problem was DNS related. I was using Cloudflare DNS 1.1.1.2 and 1.0.0.2. Neither was resolving forums.pelicanparts.com. I switched to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 and now I can access the forums as usual. I'm guessing Cloudflare flagged the Pelican forums for some reason. |
It's all the Trolls in PARF... lol ;)

FYI, I think it's good to not keep all of your DNS eggs in one basket (cloudflare). There's nothing wrong with cloud flare, I used them, but in addition, you may want to include a couple of other vendors at the bottom of the list to ensure that you are always likely to get something back. Lots of good info on good options here. https://docs.pi-hole.net/guides/upstream-dns-providers/ I think I've got about 5-8 DNS servers in my list (Windows and Mac) google, cloudflare, pi-hole, OpenDNS and local ISP. I've been getting a site not available message for the last three days or so. Sometimes it goes to the site, others I get the message.
|
I still have to log in every time I come here. eBay has been making me do it too, but no other sites.
|
I sometimes can't view the newest pages of a thread. If I delete browsing history..it is ok then.
Never have that happen on other forums. I figure it's the fault of my 10 year old laptop. |
