My wife has been on Mac for 6-7 years without any sort of protection and has been OK. I do occasionally look into the current environment for Mac OS and protection from threats.
I'll be doing more research, I think. Thanks for the recommendations folks.

Thanks for all of the suggestions folks.

I'm getting pretty comfortable in the OS now, although I'm still learning some of the keystrokes for a bunch of stuff.

I'm happier with Mail and getting to understand how it works better. It's just another email app. In some ways I think I'm beginning to like it better than Outlook.

I'm looking at some of the virtualization stuff. I've also heard about "Wine" which seems to allow you to run Windows apps without having to install Windows which sounds interesting.

I'm still looking around at AV apps.

I've looked to see if there were any docs or sites online for "hardening" MacOS. I was surprised to find that no, there's not really anything like that. I found a couple, but they basically enabled the firewall and disabled a few settings. I was also surprised to find that the firewall doesn't seem to have much in the way of "advanced" settings.

So far so good. I'm digging the iMac and the OS and the trackpad.

One thing that I noticed and that bugged me is that in Finder, when you sort by name alphabetically, all of the files and folders are mixed together alphabetically. In the Windows world, the folders are at the top alphabetically, and the files are under that, alphabetically, but the two aren't interleaved.

You can make that the behavior in Finder.

Quote:

1 In the Finder, click on the Finder menu and select Preferences, or press Command+,.
2 Click on Advanced.
3 In the list of checkbox items, the last one is “Keep folders on top when sorting by name.” Check the box if you want to do this.

I actually hate the separate file / folder sorting in Windows.

I work with compressed files all day long and it’s far more efficient when the expanded file or folder drops next to the archive.

You also know right away if the idiot who sent it to you named the file or folder differently than the archive.
