Bought another project boat, lol. ModVP Race Boat
I love going fast on the water, and in my other thread I shared my 78 Sleekcraft Aristocrat Tunnel Hull.
It's an epic boat, I love it, but the trailer was a POS. So I was always looking for a factory trailer... and wound up getting this another one, lol. This time it's an 86 Sleekcraft SST, very similar to the Aristocrat but more performance oriented, and this one is an outboard version, not a V8 i/o like the other one. I basically purchased this for the trailer... but it makes me sad looking at it, so I'm going to restore it. Video goes over the history of ModVP, condition of the boat, and first steps towards restoring it. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bOIHYqDHZPw" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOIHYqDHZPw Hopefully some of you guy will dig it. :) |
Watched your video.
That'll be a cool boat when you get it all done. Hope the transom doesn't end up 'sinking' the project. |
You should be able to go plenty fast in that hull once fixed up.
You should check out Tim Hancock's thread on rebuilding his boat, should be quite inspiring. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/981063-another-project-boat-soft-floor.html Has was not as rough as yous but did have some of the same issues. Cheers Richard |
Keep up the vids. I like them. And now I want a boat...

Luckily, I sort of know what I'm doing, as I've done this before.
This is my 1978 Sleekcraft Aristocrat Tunnel, named "Dangerzone", I redid a few years ago |
You need 2 tools:
BigAss shop vac with a blower. And this: https://toolpowers.com/wp-content/up...5A-Model-1.jpg |
I know nothing about boats, but back in the late 70’s - early 80’s, my friend a Magnum tunnel boat with a huge Mercury in the back. One time on Lake Lanier, going super fast, we went over one wake and the front send went under water on the other side.
Our hats, glasses and beers went flying off us. Laughed our asses off. |
