Ogden / Roy, Utah area
Are there any Pelicans who live in the Ogden/Roy area of Utah?
How about 1st hand experience or solid knowledge about the area? Thanks, ~chris |

Chris, I grew up close to that area. I still have a good friend in Northern Utah. PM me and I’ll introduce you to him.

the Mormon college kids go up on the pass to drink beer, and leave the (incriminating) bottles behind

Kip Attaway who performed at The Mangy Moose and Million Dollar Cowboy Bar used to sell a T-shirt that said "God Can't See In Jackson Hole" due to all the Mormon kids partying there.

I spent a day for work in Ogden once. I don't really remember anything about it. I think it may have been scenic, and I remember thinking that it seemed really small. But I'm not sure where in town I was.

Why do you ask? I visited there 2 years ago and can speak about the town and the university in general terms. Let us know!

guys...thanks for all the replies! I appreciate it.
it's looking 99.9% certain I'll be relocating there in the very near future. My family is very excited about this opportunity. I've been referred to a very experience local broker who has been able to generate an impressive group of listings for us in just the past 6 hours or so....but still looking for any additional info in terms of opinions of the different communities, local hangouts, places to avoid etc..... I'm pretty sure that once we get out there, we'll pick up on it pretty quickly. But from the looks of the way things have developed in the past 24hours, we may have a place under contract before we even make it out there! who knows, ya know. again, thanks for all the replies guys. |

it's better if you are LDS...
% non-Mormon is lower than SLC, higher than most smaller towns generally clean, rational it's a college town - I can tell you at the Biology Dept. in detail but I bet you don't care... |

It is a pretty quaint town, there are entertainment and restaurants in an old downtown area. The university is close by. If I had to buy a house for a family, I would look somewhere in the university / down town area and try to keep some of it walkable or bikable. That OR I would be out on a ranch. I would be careful not to move into the usual Utah 8 bedroom McMansion. In terms of entertainment is definitely Utah, so don't expect to find Nashville there. Seems like a good place to raise a family if you can deal with the Mormon lifestyle that's going to be ever present. Outdoors is great, skiing is good, hunting, fishing etc.
IMHO it is crazy to buy a house without having even been to a place. I would always go rent something for the first year and then pull the trigger. I know, sometimes work pays for the closing costs but when I can, I take a lump sum bonus and do it on my schedule. If you can't do that, at least get on an airplane and have a look first. You will always run the risk to miss details, such as messy neighbors, power lines, train tracks, airports, shooting ranges etc. that may make the new house non-ideal. Good luck with the move. G |
