For me such issues profoundly improved by losing weight - once you have a flat stomach and AHA, maybe it wasn't just the age that made you great when you were 20 ... ;)

It is not a theory

I have had the same issue as OP for many years. Too many sprains to be able to list or even remember. I always healed uo quickly, but retained a weakness in both ankles. Compounding the issue was I always wore high top boots (army doesnt give you a choice of footwear). Subsequently whenever I was off duty in shoes of my own choosing, l would roll an ankle on occasion. The cobbled streets of Europe played hell with my ankles after I retired. I deduced that the wearing of boots had been like a cast and had allowed my ankles to weaken. So, l stopped wearing boots, did a lot of walking and now it has been years since I have had a roll over...even on cobbled streets.

+2.... one for each of the last two posts. I started wearing 6" Danners (and inserts), after trying to find something I could even walk in...they definitely weakened my ankles even more. I keep them laced very loose, allowing some movement and that mitigates the weakening. The boots are more like the cast fitted Lennox-Hill knee brace I have from three decades ago...they keep me from falling on my azz for stepping on a pebble....and a BIG rollover or knee blowout (no ACL, etc. now). I haven't worn the knee brace in decades.

I think my NBA aspirations are over.... age....that... plus I wasn't that great :D.

Good luck!

You guys didn't have enough pics, so I went to the skatepark yesterday and sprained my ankle to show you how it's done.

...the stuff I do for this forum....

I used to wear these when I played basketball and indoor volleyball. I've rolled my ankles so many times that I hardly feel it any more.
