1970 Volvo 145S wagon on eBay - Montana

Rough condition but looks restorable. BIN at $5K and taking offers.

My first 145 was a '70 and one day I will get another 145 - but not right now - so hoping she ends up in a good home where she can be restored.

Jesus, what a schit bucket. I can smell it from here. And yes, I like old Volvos. That thing is not worth $400.

It would be cheaper to buy a nice one for whatever they go for thee days than to restore that.

Second part of your post I can agree with.

There's no pics of the interior so hard to know what condition it's in. Exterior has some issues but I've seen far worse.

The rust is the killer and if it's true what the seller says about little to no rust, absolutely this car would be restorable. Hopefully it will get into someone's hands willing to do that.

I have a great mechanic here who would would pull that engine, tear it down, and rebuild it so it hummed like a sewing machine.

He had an old one at his shop earlier this year, in fact:

Save your money, Baz. Cars in Montana rust, and that one is terrible.

I’ve seen worse as well, (I’m from Minnesota), and I’ve also seen better in the junkyard in SoCal. Many times.

I can rebuild that engine as well as anyone in the free world but that is not worth my time. I clicked on the link thinking it might just be old and dusty, like a good dry Montana or other Rocky Mountain car. We all know that anything can be restored...all it takes is money...and if a car is valuable enough, it WILL get restored. In the case of a Volvo, pretty much any model, they are available in good shape for way less than restoration $$.

I didn't look at these listings, but it sure looks like you can get a nice 145 for not much more than the price of this turd.

Yep, and those are BaT prices, which are always inflated. The one thing I’ll say for eBay, (which generally sucks these days), is that a deal is still theoretically possible. On BaT, the merchandise is a lot better and the format allows for much better due diligence but you pay for that.

I already saw those earlier this year, Steve. To be honest, if I had caught that white one that sold in June before the auction ended, I would have been very tempted to bid for it. By the time I saw it, it was already sold. The other two that sold in 2019 as well. I just wasn't checking on that site. But am now.

But then again, none of those that sold on BAT are the early 145S with the slotted grille, which is the model I like better. '68-'70.

I know some are out there and one day I'd like to get one.

As I said in the first post, I didn't intend to go after this one in Montana. Not the right car right now for me. I don't need another project. Space is also an issue and I wouldn't want it sitting outside, especially in my location.

I just thought it worth posting. You never know. Someone here might be interested. That's all.

Thanks, I will Big Fred!

And I hope everyone here keeps me in mind if they run across any 145S series wagons, which were produced from '68-'74....and specifically those from '68-70.

You can buy a much newer Volvo (850, V70R or V70) for $5k that will drive nicely, have lots of power, and AC.

I like old cars, but not that one.

Same be could be said for many other makes and models but sometimes people buy a certain vehicle for other reasons than you state.

For me part of it is nostalgia.

Update on BAT......I joined and then signed up to get notifications when a Volvo is listed. So far in just one week I've received 3 notifications, so it's working. They don't have a specific notification for the 145S so I'm getting them for all models, but that's OK - if that's the only way to do it.

I'm pretty close with the guys at iPd (basically the Pelican of Volvo) and lots of early model enthusiasts. If you're seriously looking, I can find you the right car. There are TONS of good condition cars where I live. Hell, the guy across from my house has a nice 145 as a daily.

Denis is correct about the first post. That car is something you dont want.

PM me if you want to go further.
