Any weather reports from the Carolinas?

As usual the chuckleheads from the Weather Channel are standing out in the wind  but what's the deal on the ground? You all good?

Rained and blew like hell here for about 6 hours, but I was on the western edge of the storm. Probably worse to the east.

My wife's co-worker had his entire extended family (including his 7 kids, inlaws, and brother's family) in Myrtle Beach area over the weekend. They had a mandatory evacuation order, so they retreated about 2 hours inland to a block of hotel rooms.

I slept through the whole thing. No branches or leaves on the ground. No power loss which is unusual. We are about 20 mi SE of Raleigh (too close). Unlucky folks in the NE part of NC were hit by a tornado. 2 mobile home parks leveled. 1 dead 4 missing. Some mild flooding and trees down along path of storm. Mild compared to a full blown hurricane. But of course the media hypes it. Fear sells.

We got a boatload of rain and strong winds, but I was on the west side of the "eye", which passed to the east of me by five miles.

It is also a fast mover and is headed your way!

Unless this turns into another Sandy we're fairly sheltered up here in the valley. Rain is the biggest concern for the low spot where my pond sits and the valley can tunnel wind fiercely but we're usually fine.

The rain gauge in Leonardtown, a few miles away as the crow flies, recorded 8.1 inches.

Yikes!

Little to no wind here (Hilton Head, SC) and little bit of rain Monday morning...wasn't even enough rain to make it cart path only. Thank you, Lord!

My brother / sister in-law live in Ocean Isle, but on the main land part. From their front porch its @ 200 yards to the inland waterway. Then about 1/2 mile further to the beach. He said that the it looked kinda rough eastward past the waterway, but where he is no real damage.

My sister/ her husband are vacationing in OBX - said it's ok. The really bad weather has rolled on by.

No rain on Long Island...the wind is relentless though

I'll wont have to buy as much firewood next season..

I have a bit of work to do, and my chainsaw is in Vermont...

I went back out to continue the clean up... and promptly got stung a few more times..

I'm done for today.. i think its 7 or 8 bee stings..I'm not allergic... but I definitely feel a bit off..

Tobra 08-04-2020 05:59 PM

smoke is your friend in that deal

take a couple benadryl, drink a bunch of water, eat something and take some anti inflammatories

no, seriously, at least take the anti inflammatories, benadryl would be better right when you got stung, which probably happens tomorrow, even if you smoke them out

flatbutt 08-04-2020 06:28 PM

It passed thru here with surprising speed. The wind as expected did more damage than the rain. But we are now being blessed with temps in the higher 60's and a nice breeze.

Forget about the old chewing tobacco for pain relief from the bee stings. Instead, mix up a paste of meat tenderizer and a few drops of water in the palm of your hand and then apply that to the stings. Wash off in about an hour. Pain gone. Courtesy my Pharmacist from a long long time ago.

A reminder to all those not enduring it immediately:
A little extra paranoia in roof-foundation fasteners will probably go a long way.

You can use papaya juice too, if you have a papaya handy, proteolytic effect, with the venom being a protein.

TimT 08-04-2020 06:48 PM

Two stings on left index finger... two on left ankle... three or four on left knee

I am not allergic.., but besides the local pain from the stings..

I don't feel right...

My GF who is a Nurse Practitioner is on her way over

I had 75 mph in out face in Margate. Knocked over the grill and toppled these 5 gal. Buckets, filled with 70 lbs or so of wet sand.
I’m waiting for that FEMA check to rebuild.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1596595876.jpg
