recommedation for a bluetooth portable speaker?

i want to get my wife one. she is always listening to things with that feeble iphone speaker.

musicals, music and podcasts.

any great options that are cost effective?

GH85Carrera 08-11-2020 07:47 AM

I am blow away with my Bose speaker. It sounds great.

It is rather spendy but you will be amazed how good it sounds. I got mine "free" when I bough a set of aviation headphones with the sound reduction. Those are astonishing.

I haven’t had one that’s particularly bad but i have a tin ear. They all seem to be similar in performance to me. Do you have a size or price point you’re working towards?

If cost is no object, you could get her this one for about $45,000. Comes with a free charging port and a Jeep.

i keep circling back to this one....

I got one of these and have been very impressed. I think it was Flojo here that mentioned this unit.

I use it in the shower, my 911, my Scout and by the pool. I can hear music driving down the highway in my Scout with the roof on and that is saying something !

On my way to work the other day, I stopped in the middle of my county road (4:45 am) to pick up a really nice bluetooth speaker that had fallen off of someone's car. It is the one below....

I also have one of these which i am very pleased with as well, I think they are not available new any more. The Bose outlet store near me was selling factory reconditioned ones when i bought mine new. I don't really move this one around do to its size but it sounds great.

I recently purchased this one. It’s very small but it puts out good sound. Very cheap. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-SRS-XB12-Portable-Bluetooth-Speaker/dp/B07P85CDHG

If you're a Costco member these are great. Carry outside when working or relaxing in the yard, great sound. They put them on sale every now and then for $120-125....

I bought one of these recently for myself, works fantastic and is very affordable:

I also bought the same one for my Dad and he's been using it daily for 9 months and loves it.

Not sure how portable you want things, or how important the sound is, but Edifier makes a line of the best sounding Bluetooth active speakers you will ever hear.
I emphasize stereo, because they come in pairs...
Stereo like God wanted you to listen to music

The Spinnakers are cool looking, sound amazing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbhECw6j1Ms

These are fantastic..if you don't even think you want speakers, order a set on amazon, and send them back...

https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-S2000pro-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B0725GZQFZ/ref=asc_df_B0725GZQFZ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198093834376&hvpos=&hvnetw= g&hvrand=3599915112442430841&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt =&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003920&hvt argid=pla-378703644206&psc=1

These are the state of the art.
The first system that has cut the cord. The right speaker talks to the left, and all they need is a power, so they can be plaked anywhere.
The audiophile reviews do not lie. You will hear clarity and harmonies and the sound between the notes you never knew existed...
I've heard more than buy share of great systems..gold plated sheet and all, and these blow it all away...

I got the Bose Soundlink II as a gift a couple years ago. Great sound, good battery, easy set anywhere and throw in a backpack or gym bag. Mine follows me almost everywhere on the weekends; garage, backyard, kitchen, shower, park, etc.

Bang and Olufsen A2. My small speaker legitimately sounds like a real stereo.

wdfifteen 08-11-2020 02:31 PM

We've have Boom speakers for years. They don't give them away, but they work and sound great.

My son has a Samsung that is quite impressive. He bought a little cheap one at Kohls that sounds pretty nice too. I'll go take a pic of both and post.

cabmandone 08-11-2020 02:54 PM

So the story behind this pic. I walk up to my son's room and say "where's that bluetooth speaker you bought from Kohls?" "he says "you can't use it, use the Samsung". Sooo I'm gonna say he likes this one better than the Samsung (which I think sounds REALLY good) I think he got this thing for around $80. It's the one he takes out onto the pool deck. It does have good sound to it for a little speaker. It's a House of Marley EM-JA006B

Oh, and he did get it for about $80 but it was on clearance at Kohls. Things are about double that everywhere I've looked.

mschnitger 08-11-2020 03:39 PM

Also have a House of Marley. I think it sounds good and also is a good looking speaker.

wildthing 08-11-2020 05:21 PM

Portability and good sound don't often go hand in hand. How small do you want to go? I have one of those Harman/Kardon circular speakers that I take to the beach, but they are at least 12" in diameter. Sound is pretty decent.

On the other hand my kids listen to Hamilton all day in a puny giveaway with a driver no larger than 1.5".

As previously posted, Bose makes a lot of options, different sizes, different sound quality. If your local Bose showroom is open, auditioning is always a good idea. Costco sells a few from time to time and has some setup to test it.

I believe JBL makes waterproof ones and a neighbor brought one to our community pool. Sounds pretty decent though I never got why he was dipping it into the water - probably testing the waterproof properties.

I've had a Gen 1 A1 for years and the sound is awesome. Battery life is not so great, though.

For a plug in powered speaker I got a Tango TRX from Ross and it sounds fantastic!

had a JBL charge 3 for 5 years now.. runs 20 hours on a battery.. good volume and bass, can get wet.. durable casing..

very happy with it

Starless 08-12-2020 04:45 AM

I'm happy with my JBL/Harmon Kardon Charge 4. Also fits in the 911 in the fire extinguisher mount. Since my unit doesn't work I can also use it for music in my car.

I have used the Ultimate Ears Boom II for a couple of years now. Great sound, great battery, good price.

Just happened to check in on slickdeals just now and Amazon's got a highly rated bluetooth speaker on special for $23. The brand is Anker.

I was going to offer up a Jawbone Jambox.. just found out they went out of business..

I've had a Jambox for years its great for tossing into a bag and bring it wherever..

I also have one of these

https://ecoxgear.com/shop/ecopebble-lite/

It floats.. you can toss it in the pool and chill

Finally one from kickstarter, I use it for a computer soundbar.. The company tanked soon after it delivered the speakers..

Agreed, love my Jambox. You can still get them new or refurbished on eBay for under $50.00.

WPOZZZ 08-12-2020 08:34 PM

We all have different ears and tastes. The best thing is to try them out, and choose what you like best. I like clean tight bass and the Tango and B&O have thay and good highs.

Love my jambox too, it goes just about everywhere we do. I always toss it in the back pack any travel that we do.

Scott Douglas 08-13-2020 08:56 AM

I was going to ask, how do these sound compared to a Jambox?
Wife has one that I can't stand listening to, tinitus donchano, but I can't stand it when she listens to her iPad in the kitchen when she's cooking.
