Like them overall. I nearly bought one a few years ago but didn’t like that you had to wind it up to 5k+ to make it come alive though. I prefer to have a car that’s fun without drawing the attention of every cop in a half mile radius.

Handle well, stop well. Look pretty good. Comfortable and not too blingy interior. They even go well if flogged.

I’d pay $10,001.

I've always liked them. I've never driven one, but I'd love to.

Wife likes them. But she likes most 2 seat topless cars. Z3, Z4, old Alfa Spyder. . .

I wouldn't mind driving one to see if the low end torque is livable.

I had one awhile back. My youngest son actually loved it. Me not so much, I felt like the "fat guy in a little suit" when I drove it.....and I am not that fat.
I do wish I would have kept it....

I don't think it will work if you are over 6ft tall... I sat in one and could barely get out.

The early ones had very little torque, had to get it up to 6K or so. I think in 2004 they made a change and actually got a little more torque out of it.
The one I had was a 2000. IT always sounded like you were going a lot faster than what you were...

Future classic, super reliable, fantastic handling, state of the art for the time. Not super fast of course

I had an 06

Two things it didn't do well

1). The AC left you lukewarm. It was ok, but not GM great. Simple workaround. Put the top down.
2) For me, ymmv, the car left me, hmmm, well lukewarm.
It was good, reliable, handled nice, shifter was great, electric top was great, but...
For me it never ignited raw passion. It seemed like a Corvette lite, and all my friends had Corvettes.

Just for prospective on me.

I traded the car for a Lotus Elise. That car ignited my passion.
Yep, a challenge to get in and out of.
Yep, Honda parts are cheaper and more reliable
Yep, the S2000 was safer.
Nope, never once caught myself, after a drive, just sitting in the S2000 for an additional 30 seconds just because. I did frequently in the Lotus.

I was obviously dropped on my head as a child too many times.

Go drive the S2k. They are very good cars. if it pushes your passion button, enjoy the ride!

I remember reading about one with a supercharger.
Lots of bottom end torque with all the high revving top.
Around 330 hp IIRC?
I also seem to remember it experiencing a bottom end failure, not sure if it's related.

Point is, if it's reliable that would be one heck of a fun ride.
Might to do some research on that.

I would love to have one with a Comptech (or equivalent) supercharger kit. I had a friend with an '04 and it just needed a bit more power... kind of like a stock Elise. The handling is certainly great, though.
I'm 6'2" and found it roomy enough inside. Certainly better than a Miata (new or old).
There are some local shops that build turbo S2Ks - not on the stock bottom end i'm sure - putting out 600+ whp.

From the time the S2000 came out I wanted one. I am a ragtop guy and I like Honda products, so no brainer. Drove one and it cured me of wanting one.

Terrible instrumentation, could not find a comfortable driving position, need to hammer on it to make it go. I was shocked that I did not love it.

It's not for big fellows. I worked on one and had my 170 lb friend get in it so we could move it. Bad knees. Poor bastard. After a couple times he developed a system of entering.

The suspension and handling is better, the seats are much more supportive, the engine is much better. Beyond that I couldn't say. That is comparing a bone stock '04 S2K to a supercharged but otherwise stock 2016 ND Miata.
