Self-cocking Crossbow?

Years ago I had a 175 lb pull Barnett Commando crossbow. It cocked by bending the bow. Looking to get one today and all I see are ones that need a separate cocking device. Why did this feature go away? Anyone know of a self-cocking recurve crossbow with decent pull weight made today?

I don't know, but I'm going to guess safety/liability is the reason that you don't see them any more.

buy a Ravin Crossbow. they are so far ahead of the curve it isnt funny. the bolt only touches the bow at the string when you pull the trigger. it doesnt ride down a rail like the old days.

super super accurate. if you buy their bolt$, it is already factory sighted from 20 yards to 100.

i shoot a bow, and i am so used to watching the arrow in flight. wiith a Ravin, it just appears stuck into a target. no rainbow flight. it is insane. i'm waiting for my 80 year old neighbor to realize it is a really bad idea, and sell me his :)

Want A reasonably priced recurve. Ravens look nice but they are compound and expensive. I am looking in the two to $300 range. How difficult is it to clock them by hand?

You can buy some Barnett compound xbows with what looks like a built in cocking device but it's really an add on. I just sold my friend's for $150 that had the crank cocking setup on it. Needed a new cable and string. I've never seen one in a recurve with built in. I use a two handle rope cocker for my Parker Cyclone
