Why you don't leave your phone

On the tailgate of your truck. Wallet and phone on the gate, loaded the wheels, shut the gate, iPhone 6 got crushed in the hinge. Only good part is I've been trying to make an appointment at the Apple store to buy an 11 Pro for 2 weeks now.

What was neat about it is the phone was working all on its own, making calls, texting people, opening up apps. Then it sort of froze.

I thought this was about "Why don't you leave your phone number so I can hear it."
Too many people call and ask me to call back, and recite their number so fast there is no way I can capture it and then immediately end the call.
When I call someone I tell them who I am and what my number is, then I leave my message, then I tell them my name and number again - twice.
Sorry about your phone.

I had a screen not quite that bad, covered with clear packing tape and I could still use phone.

Today was an expensive day. Micro DA and cerium oxide polishing a dull but complete orange bar badge. So buying a phone for me and a good badge for my customer.

masraum 08-18-2020 03:39 PM

Ouch, are you saying the orange bar chipped out while you were polishing? And you trashed your phone?

You should go buy a lottery ticket, because you haven't used any good luck for anything else today.

My wife left her phone, we think, on the car once in the grocery store parking lot. (this was WAAAY back in the early days of smart phones, with a G1, the first Google phone) I was able to find it using GPS. I went back to the parking lot. It had been run over and thrown in the trash, but still sort of worked (power, showed incoming calls, etc...).

My 6 needed a new battery, Apple just gave me a new 6.

OldSpool87 08-18-2020 04:14 PM

Cerakote it.

Neilk 08-18-2020 04:52 PM

Or put it on the trunk of your wife’s car while you are washing your own car, and then she leaves to run and errand.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1597798300.jpg

I was able to find it though using Find my iPhone.

Baz 08-18-2020 04:55 PM

.........in your door pocket.

Just stay alert when it rains. Make sure you roll up your window(s).

onewhippedpuppy 08-18-2020 05:17 PM

Wife sat hers on the ledge of the trunk on our W212 and slammed it. Similar results. That was after she left it on the roof of her car and drove away. Similar results. This is why she gets my old phones.

You need this stuff at 11:00. But in red:

After 15 minutes on a main-lane of Interstate 10

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1597800350.jpg

I was able to turn it on and download the data

varmint 08-18-2020 05:38 PM

I’m still using a 6. I’m holding out for some spectacular new feature before upgrading. The 11 is kind of meh.

That looks pretty cool. Someday soon I'll be getting a kiln so I can restore orange bar badges with correct enamel and gold plate.

8 was meh when I looked at it. 11 is substantially better and the Pro is the perfect size, but I did just look up when the next Apple release date and it's late September so I may get a cheap 6 and wait and see what comes out.

Tobra 08-18-2020 05:49 PM

A kiln seems like the sort of thing you would already have one of.

Trying to make an appointment for two weeks is good because you are so busy?

Got a stack of iPhones.

I can lend ya one.

You can return it when you come get that dead trannie out of the back of my truck

Tobra 08-18-2020 08:10 PM

Seems like a dead trannie in the back of a truck in Texas would start to smell bad pretty quick

Thanks, I'm meeting someone at noon to get a pristine 6 for $100. I am pretty sure I just take my chip tray out and slide it in and it's my phone though will probably have to download Waze, Venmo, etc.

I'll text you on coming down.

Be careful buying an iPhone from a private seller. There are a lot of 'fake' iPhones out there. Google what to look for when buying outside of a major chain store.

billybek 08-19-2020 05:35 AM

I bought a 6s from Costco for my son after he had lost my old 5s.
I thought it was pretty reasonably priced.
I like the look of the SE. Kind of back to 5s shape and size.

GH85Carrera 08-19-2020 05:41 AM

My wife's nephew ran over his week old iPhone with a brush hog. Just some small pieces were left.

I have used an Otter Box for all my iPhones since I moved to a iPhone version 1. I have sold a few old phones, and I need to sell some more old phones, I just hate the Ebay experience of selling.

I have never destroyed a phone yet. Like my keys, in my lifetime I have never lost my keys, ever.

It is only a 6. I would just make sure it's unlocked or specifically for Shaun's carrier and also works with his SIM card.

$100 is not a huge exposure. Hope it's got a fresh battery in it.

Shaun @ Tru6 08-19-2020 08:33 AM

Setting up phone now. Very disappointed that in this day and age I can't take the chip out of an established phone and put it into another and the new phone becomes the same as the old one, less any apps the new one doesn't have.

I guess a good idea to back up your phone on a regular basis since I'm restoring from a November 2018 back up. Can't wait to see what that does.

Because back in the day the SIMS had the capacity to store that data.

That's no longer the case.

SIMS would have to be SD cards.

No rivers around my parts of town. Hey, I have not had a moving violation of any sort in over 30 years either. I have had my El Camino 29 years and the 911 for 25. I have not been pulled over in either car, ever.

Get the perpetual ICloud backup going.

The 11 does everything better. But does nothing new.

Make it a stun gun, a night vision scope, something.

I honestly thought it was Bob but will do so on this one.

Getting a 12 when they come out. I just hope they have a model that is perfectly sized like the 11 Pro.

The 11 Pro has double lenses for the cameras and can do some snazzy picture stuff if you are into that. Daughter sold me her XS Max to get the 11 Pro and I use it just like the 6 I had.

RSBob 08-19-2020 09:32 PM

Have a 6 and will hold on to it until the COVID producing 5G goes mainstream. From what I have read, 5G is far from meh

911boost 08-19-2020 09:39 PM

I had that happen in an airplane seat, didn’t realize it had fallen in and pushed the landing button and heard it crunch.

Still have an 8S, hoping the 12 is small like the 8, not a phablet
