Any Volvo Guys Here....Opinion Please
Hi All,
Just bought a 2010 XC70 D5TT. Has 190,000kms with FSH. In great condition all round. Lots of options ticked when purchased new. And experience with XC70's? I pretty much bought it with very little research. Cheers Scott

I've owned several Volvos from the current/recent era and they have all been excellent cars. We don't get the diesel models in the USA so can't comment on the engine specifically.

I have an older xc90. It is for my kids so when they crash, they live.
The safety is off the charts. Very impressive. Sort of a maintenance pig, but my kids are worth it. |

What's FSH? 190K kms is go time for all kinds of stuff, especially AWD stuff. You may need new control arms if the bushings are tired. It can eat you alive. Sorry...

FSH-- Full Service History. A lot that of stuff has been done. I have read the Haldex AWD stuff is pretty bulletproof. Change the oil and filter in the Haldex pump often and it'll go for years.

I had to replace a tranny control module on one of these. Simple repair.

We have a 2005 (generation before yours) V70. Despite being in Europe, the car is US specs, so no diesel. Ours was an auction special which I paid next to nothing for it’s 155k miles and lack of maintenance history. It now has 175k miles. It is front wheel drive only.
It’s been pretty good. Here’s what I like: Decent power from (2.5T) gas Will swallow a bunch of stuff Comfy Rust free despite snow/salt in winter (this is probably the biggest deal for me) Parts have generally been pretty cheap Easy to DIY Issues we’ve fixed: Clogged PVC system (probably not an issue on a diesel) Warped rotors up front (came with these, no issues so far with the replacements) Rebuilt turbo (due to age/mileage) Leaking power steering pump (easy diy) Motor mounts (seems common with newer Volvo’s... we’ve had others from the same generation need replacing Existing issues mostly relate to the CAN-Bus and electrics. Backlight of knobs and switches on he stereo are inop due to some communication failure of the CAN bus. Stereo works fine otherwise. Sunroof sometimes won’t close (due to faulty alarm system module, motor is fine) so we don’t open it. The issues are nit picky, IMO, and relate to the cars age, mileage and dubious history. It runs/drives well and has seen much of Central Europe on trips. I’d by another one in a heartbeat as they are very well built. Yours looks beautiful. Enjoy it! |

I am on my first Volvo , purchased a 2010 XC90 earlier this year with only 40K miles on it . The 3.2 has enough power to move the heavy chassis and get decent fuel mileage . It is my wifes car and she likes driving it . Very comfortable and feels very solid . I enjoy driving it also . Good luck with yours .

I had a V70 turbo. Endless problems that no one could fix forced me to sell it. Little things: the electronic seat adjusters (cables will stretch causing the mechanism to disengage), burned through alternators, but the biggest issue was white smoke at idle. I thought it was the turbo pump which had a water coolant feature. Was probably the head casket.

I have owned a V70 wagon, S60 sedan and an XC90. All were exceptionally reliable. The closest to your prospective car would have been my 2009 XC90. It was a very durable and reliable car which we owned from 41K to 156k miles. We purchased it CPO from Volvo so it had the bumper to bumper 100K 3 year warranty. I think we used the warranty once for something small. Other than that it needed nothing except brakes, tires and regular service until we sold it. My wife just wanted something newer. It seems like all of my Mercedes and BMW friends are complaining about repairs and expense.

We’ve had 6 Volvo’s, 3 xc70’s, a 780 Bertone coupe, a c30 and a c70 hardtop convertible. All great cars. Relatively easy to work on. At around 80-100K, time to change pcv. Easy on the xc70, pia on the t-5 coupes. The t6 Turbo engine is a great engine, trouble free. T5 turbos are good too, but have a belt drive for the camshaft. T6 engines are chain driven. I’ve done all the maintenance on them, brakes, oil/filter, wheel bearings. We have a 2014 xc70 and a 2013 C70 coupe. Well built, comfortable and very safe. Flat floor when rear seats are folded, dogs love it, plenty of room to roam around. Surprising how much you can stuff in the car with seats folded. Great cars, good luck!

It has the prancing moose, so it's got to be good. At least it was owned by someone who liked the car.

Not familiar with the newer V70, but I sure loved my 850 turbo wagon. "Helga" the Hellfire Wagon! Loved that car. Smoke at idle can be alot of things, but one to always check is the PCV/flame trap. Had to do that on Helga. Kind of a pain because the intake manifold had to come off to do it. But...I wrote a dude a check instead of me doing it - LOL!
You know what I would really like? A manual transmission C30. Love 'em! angela
