Regrets? not joining you at Hershey for that burger. No mixed feelings. Clearing house, selling 4 cars, three buyers. I came to realize, from some of the guys here, that I was at a point where the cars owned me. I actually haven't driven them in years.

I think most of us go through different phases in our lives.

I know I have.

I would classify in broad terms you are going into the minimalist direction. Downsizing. Put into that framework - who couldn't relate?

I like that you are saying you intend to buy another one day. That says you still have the passion. That's the important part. The rest is just logistics, more or less.

PS - Would love to hear more about the "Amigo" including some pics, if that's possible. Especially curious about the practicality of that little bed in back. Is it really useful for anything? ;)

Talking about phases we go through. Got bored with my SC, sold it and bought a new road bike (endurance bicycle which looks like a racing bike). Prior to buying my 911S, I was a hard core endurance road biker, super fit and skinny. Then I really got into Porsche ownership, and started fixing, modifying (2.7 RS spec motor with MFI) and generally improving it. Consumed tons of time which I enjoyed while the bike gathered dust and I gained 15lbs. Now I ride just about daily, with a few rest days to recover, have lost the 15lbs, and enjoy getting stronger while increasing my distance and average speed. So rather than improving the car, I am more into improving the self. As a bonus, I can now eat more since I am burning so many calories. And I love to eat.

Of course I know, I am a unicorn in present company except for a handful of other roadies. So it’s back to my prior phase which gave me a great deal of satisfaction.

There's always 2021.

Cars, being what they are, don't own anything, they just rise and fall in priority in your life. The trick is being able to manage priority against opportunity cost. Just don't get old an bitter, it's been spreading around OT like CV19.

Puppy, that is the one thing that keeps me from enjoying my 911. I've wanted a 911 since childhood, as prices went north I thought I had missed the window.... chance played in my favor and I was able to get my 911SC, I now have a love/hate relationship with it.

I doubt i'll ever own another Porsche if I sell this one. As they say, never meet your hero's. ;)

2021, perhaps, I still have a shed full of 911 & boxster parts and wheels.

You may see it someday. Plan before CV19 was to drive it to the FL keys to replace a chevy tracker we have there.

I'm not piling on, I am making fun of his characterization. I get where you are at, I got there 10 years ago and started divesting myself of loads of stuff. I kept a 4,000 Sq. Ft. warehouse to store all of the stuff that wouldn't fit in my house, which wasn't small. I kept 7 cars garaged there in two garages and had an upstairs "shop" to store my collectible motorcycles. You wouldn't believe the collection of parts I had, too, many of them quite rare. It took me 10 years to sell it all, working at it like it was a full time job.

Seriously, I get it and support your decision.

I have a couple of air cooled cars that I rarely drive. One, I took apart for a minor problem years ago where I had to order a part...and have never fully reassembled (as I moved on to something else while the part was on order). I just don't have the time and when I have time...not enough energy/enthusiasm since no one I know really appreciates the cars but me (so a lonely hobby). I have kept mine as a retirement hobby...hoping to have more time/ambition then. When I go out into the garage and see them in their shiny, shapely wonderfulness, I cannot really imagine giving them up (must be what it is like to have a mistress)...as they really never get old or dull. They are near perfect, so I do hate driving them when I have to park in a less safe place. Not because of their value, but because I would really hate a paint chip or dent (like protecting one's children).
I really don't need the money that selling one would bring (they are as good an investment as any)...and cannot bring myself to spend money on a new car. So, I guess my kids will each get one some day. They will probably sell them before my body is cold.

Looking forward to April. Let me know if you have anything pre-964 before then.

This is me. The 964 has been sitting for five years now, the cab has been driven three times this summer.

Good now that you are with out a 911 you can experience other cars.
Lately I've been looking at everything on Racing junk or BAT.
Everything feels like btdt.

I must be jaded/satiated, with a couple 700hp GT-1 race cars and an 86 911 and C5Z.
It's been years since I had the "I wants" for any other cars.

If you guys need someone to exercise your 911 feel free to send them my way. I drove and enjoyed the hell out of mine. Work, errands, pleasure, etc. I drove it every chance I got. But I’ve been doing it since my first 911, a 1970 911T that was my daily driver and only car. In my opinion it’s pointless to have a car that just sits. I only sold mine as part of a push to be debt free, so I miss it but don’t regret it.

Maybe I’m getting old and bitter with all of you guys.... I got the go ahead this summer from the better half to buy another Porsche, and had found a few 997s that fit the bill. Came time to pull the trigger and I realized that while it’d be fun, I’d enjoy owning a truck more. Something to haul the stuff for the projects I like to do, something to take camping and fishing with the kids, etc. sure another Porsche around would be fun, but it sure doesn’t excite me like it did ten years ago...

Other than up and down our road a couple times a year (to get the oil hot), I have not driven my '79 SC for a couple years. Part of it is other hobbies/interests and part of it is that it has gone from a relatively cheap fun car summer to now being worth too much to be used as a daily summer driver. I also still have my fairly nice condition '87 951 which has not been on the road in probably 7 years. At 54 I WILL NOT get rid of either as I know that at some point I will get back on a Porsche kick.... By then both cars will be worth even more "collectible".... I have gotten rid of a couple cars when I was younger that I wish now I had kept. (1972 240Z, 1972 Mustang, numerous Beetles) I won't be making that mistake again. ;)

My one big automotive regret...

Passing on a $12,500 AU Aston Martin DB5 that need paint and a new interior. (Silver on red) Mechanically it was OK. It needed a new clutch and the basics but it was a solid car. This was about 25 years ago... I had the money but my then wife started moaning about a European holiday and stuff. That and back then they were no big deal. Even with the James Bond association it was just another old British car that needed work.

A nice DB5 is about $1.5 mil in Aus. I could retire on that amount of money right now and my lifestyle wouldn't change. :(
