Amazon Prime

it seems you get 3 things:

1. faster shipping (I get free shipping by waiting a couple more days)

2. free streaming - is it any good?

3. some sort of discount at Whole Spuds - I alternate Whole Spuds with another place (local) for fresh OJ, otherwise wouldn't go there
- is the discount on everything?

The free shipping is hard to beat.

It's not just that it's free - it's quick. Most of the time next day for me.

I also like that it gives you options for delivery days.

Very easy to navigate.

Huge inventory of stuff.

I've been amazed at some of the stuff you can get.

Wetsuits and metal stock being just two of them.

If you login through smile, they donate a (small) percentage to a charity of your choice.

https://smile.amazon.com/

Items same price, but we've generated $200 for a charity so far this year.

Shipping.

But, if you want some recommendations: the Tick and Comrade Detective are amazing.

Shipping and the steaming is excellent. Top Gear, Grand Tour, other stuff.

Alan A 09-01-2020 06:24 PM

Top gear on Prime tv...

Yup, free shipping and streaming. In Hawaii, we get killed with shipping costs, but not with Prime. I've ordered tires with free shipping, and a rubber garage mat with free shipping. TireRack would charge me $50 per tire shipping, and other shippers would charge $100 for my garage mat.

You can buy something that you broke, put the broken one in the box, return and try and stick it to the merchant.
Ask me how I know

Bought a bike saddle for $260 on Amazon and went to return it and they said, just keep it. Didn’t even mention sweaty crotch or smelly shorts and then there are my bike shorts.

On Prime video is one of the best cop series ever, Bosch.

Free fast shipping, usually 1-2 day.
Free TV/Movie streaming
Free music streaming
Free photo uploading/storage

Often (you've got to check ahead of time) free returns. Amazon returns for items sold by Amazon or that were Prime (not always sold by Amazon) are really simple. Lots (but not all) are free returns. THere are some instances here and there that have a small restocking fee. I haven't had one in so long that I can't remember.

My wife has purchased clothes where she bought 2-3 of the same thing in different sizes and then returned what didn't fit. It's free and easy.

Discounts at Whole Foods. I think certain items every month or week are up to 35% off for Prime members. I think there are other items that are 10-15% off too.

You can get some food stuff delivered using Prime Pantry.

You can get free delivery from Whole Foods if you order $35 min.
Those are things that I use or am aware of. (I haven't used the music streaming or the Prime Pantry, but I have used Whole Foods delivery.)

Here's the full list of benefits.

I signed up for Prime early on.
The ease of use, reliable service, speed, breadth of products offered and the way the business is run, I could quickly see where the company was headed.
So in addition to buying into Prime many years ago, I also loaded up on Amazon stock.
That’ll pay my Prime membership fees for a few years! 😃

My Prime shipping has been dropping the ball lately, maybe due to covid? Its taken 3-4 days now on avg.

porsche4life 09-01-2020 11:15 PM

Maybe I’m biased ;)

But there’s a fair bit more than just free shipping. ;)

You can share an account so each member ener of your household has their own login, but only one subscription too.

I use amazon photos to offload all the photos on my phone. I have access to 10 years worth of photos without having to take up all the storage on my phone.

The wrench that Covid has thrown into the global logistics chain is huge. Shipping times should be returning to normal soon, but yes that’s likely they issue.

Prime video is nice. I've found that movies Netflix doesn't have can sometimes be found on Prime video. The shipping seems to be about a wash for me. If you search the item you can sometimes find items that will arrive within a day of the standard 2 day with Prime.

I use Amazon all the time. Don't assume Amazon has a great deal all the time. I was in my garage and realized the can of WD-40 I have had for many years was virtually empty. I looked on Amazoon and it was 20 bucks per can and up. WTF. I put a reminder on my phone, and I picked up a can at the local FLAPS next visit for 5 bucks.

I love Amazon streaming. So often cable TV has 150 channels of reruns I have seen, or stuff I would consider cruel and unusual punishment form of torture if forced to watch. On goes Amazon prime streaming. The have several fantastic series from Bosch to Justified and lots of movies. They do indeed have some really bad movies that make me wonder how someone ever thought it was worth shooting.

The streaming alone is worth the cost of Prime.

Prime streaming.... 4K !
Been rewatching old Grand Tour in 4K

craigster59 09-02-2020 07:33 AM

I've had Prime for years. I also have Prime Music which is great.

flipper35 09-02-2020 08:10 AM

You also have a place to put your photos as a backup. As long as you are a prime member you have unlimited photo storage.

Instrument 41 09-02-2020 08:48 AM

Its great unless the stuff you ordered is sitting in a transfer point in Lake Charles, La. Then a 2 day lead time is now 2 weeks.....
