Up $10k yesterday WOOT, see told ya

Down $20k today **** me

This is why I'm on the sidelines at my this point in my life. I'm not paying much attention these days, and (what I consider to be) huge swings are not for me.... not any more.

While it's nice to go fishing and catch a $25K bass .... it sucks to go fishing and lose a $25K plastic worm.

Gone fishin'.... :D

sammyg2 09-04-2020 07:51 AM

But what iff your worm only cost a dollar? ... ;)

yesterday my overall losses were .71%.
That knocked me all the way back to last Wednesday.
Today could be almost as bad but if it really goes south I might have to give back all of September and August. Maybe July if Fauci really tanks the markets ;)

I'm still holding my biggies, VASIX and VSCGX, and a couple smaller bond-based funds but that's about it until December earliest.
Exposure to equities is at a minimum and has been for a couple months.

Make a few hundred thousand, lose 10 grand, make another couple hundred thousand, lose a few grand...it is horrible.

KFC911 09-04-2020 09:59 AM

Makin' money you ain't never gonna spend fint?

You ol' skinfint you ;)

who here owns VASECT?

Evans, Marv 09-04-2020 02:54 PM

At this point in my life, I have most of my investment $ in the oldest mutual fund in the country. I won't be dedicating much time to individual stocks.
From a recent article in US News: "The fund has returned 8.36 percent over the past year, 8.46 percent over the past three years, 8.32 percent over the past five years and 9.80 percent over the past decade."
I'm going to continue to sit tight.

Lost another .49% today, back to where I was on August 21st. Hate that.

RWebb 09-04-2020 04:54 PM

Softbank drove up the tech prices recently with call options

Yes, but that 0.49% is $2.4 million

I saw that too, but the article said they bought $4 billion in call options over the past month. With over $200 billion being traded everyday, can $4 billion really make any kind of impact? Seems like tiny potatoes

RWebb 09-04-2020 06:18 PM

it was done quickly - I think it was the froth on top of the bubbles...

I still lost a $25K worm :D....

More than I made annually starting out.... it's virtually all "house money" for most geezers by now ;).

Easy come.... easy go...

I didn’t lose a penny.
Thankfully because I only have two. I have them buried safely out back in the yard in case it all falls apart and we fall back in the copper standard.
Don’t worry about this old man. He’s prepared.
