Just about hit this triple whopper today in my old car. Had to back up and have a look. Real wheel cruncher.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1599171444.jpg

Well actually I have been to New Orleans a couple of times, but I can't remember the potholes, must have been distracted by something else. Anyway I thought this one was a whopper, so that's the best I got.

it definitely qualifies as a pothole - what is the soil like there?

do you get a permafrost type condition at some depth?

rusnak 09-03-2020 03:48 PM

I have a question - why doesn't anyone fix that damn pot hole?

DonDavis 09-03-2020 04:25 PM

That's a doozy.

Whenever I see a substantial pothole, this song comes to mind.

"You fell asleep in my car I drove the whole time
But that's okay I'll just avoid the holes so you sleep fine
I'm driving here I sit
Cursing my government
For not using my taxes to fill holes with more cement..."

It's gonna take a lot of pot to fill that hole.... won't be cheap :)

sammyg2 09-03-2020 04:40 PM

(ducking) we don't got skeeters here either ;)

rusnak 09-03-2020 04:47 PM

All they did originally was pour asphalt on dirt. There is no base rock. So to fix it "right" would make it the only good section of that road. They can fill it with dirt and then do a concrete patch even.

It's all mud, bright red mud, you know from the song "Bud the spud, from the bright red mud."..

RWebb 09-03-2020 05:30 PM

so, if they dump a couple feet of gravel on it, will it just sink into the mud?

that's what happens in NoLa

dad911 09-03-2020 05:32 PM

Looks like the track surface at Bridgehampton near the end.

KFC911 09-03-2020 05:32 PM

So why are they called potholes anyways?

Por_sha911 09-03-2020 05:40 PM

pffttt. thats nothing
In New York we had potholes that would swallow a VW Beetle whole.

dan88911 09-03-2020 05:41 PM

It sounds better than panholes.

I work in IT. Lots of network fiber gets run through tunnels in towns. To get to the fiber, you go in through a manhole.

It's not uncommon when there's an outage for the outage to have been caused by "fire in the manhole."

I always assume someone went to a bad Mexican restaurant when I hear that.

Brando 09-03-2020 06:29 PM

To get the city to fix them, spray-paint penises on them.
