Car smog inspection

Someone (who will remain nameless) posted a random smog question in a random rice thread (don't bother looking, you won't find it, very obscure...)

So, made me think. Today, i got my car smog tested, and I noticed that they had gotten rid of the very large rolling wheel tester. I realized that here in Texas (and probably in many states not called California), the 25 year rolling smog test line has intersected with the 1996 and later cars must have OBDII line on the graph.

I wonder if some states (named California...) are in the market for the tens of thousands of used rolling smog test machines that must be on the market now...

Interesting question. There would probably be some sort of rule stating they had to be specific to CA, along with fees and re calibration, etc...

I always felt CARB was a huge racket. Virtually no difference between CA and 49 state emission parts. Laws that specify getting cars off the road rather than making them run clean...

That was me. I screwed up.

I talked to another smog station owner when I watch him stuck that scanner into the OBDII on my Cayman. I ask him about the roller and the cost associated with the gov's forceful installation of such equip. His face turned blue only to tell me that he has to pay another 55 k for a new updated machine to keep up with the newer cars. We have enough older cars here in socal that he fires those rollers up once every two to weeks. On a good day, he will smog 15 plus cars. The gov doesn't regulate the proximity of smog stations. There can be 2-3 in one block. Let them open up, so they can sell more equip. I few bad for those guys.
