hypothetical mask question: very high air flow, approved-looking mask?

OK, given the current dialogue on mask wear, maybe this should be in PARF... but, here is a hypothetical mask question that hopefully can be asked and answered directly without receiving pushback.

Has anyone seen a mask on the market with the following characteristics that could be used by those with medically-related inherent airflow impediments in certain very low- to no-risk situations with respect to disease transmission, but where having a mask on is nonetheless required:

1) Worn using a strap around the back of the head/neck, rather than around the ears;

2) Visibly covers the nose and mouth per typical mask wear requirements; mesh masks that are kind of see-through probably wouldn't pass muster in this scenario; AND

3) Provides no meaningful interruption to air flow when inhaling or exhaling - it should essentially feel like no mask is on.

Again, as this would be for very low- or no-risk scenario wear, so no particular level of protection against particulates, aerosols etc. is required

So yes, we are essentially talking about a "cosmetic" purpose mask, not a functional barrier.

Presumably, some sort of louver-like design might be required to accomplish all of the above. But materials and engineering innovation may have resulted in something else.

Thanks, Skip

Masks are filters by design

Consider using a face shield if air flow is a necessity.

I wonder about using a fighter jet mask connected to oxygen generator. Just a thought

Sounds like a lot of work for something that does nothing...especially when doing nothing landed everyone in this mess.

I cut the leg off some elastic boxer briefs. Good airflow, stretches around my head well.

My guess is, that is his point. -something that does nothing

There are no mask standards other than 'Face covering.'

This virus is tiny and escapes surgical (or cheetah-print) masks with ease. Hell, it escaped a level 4 research lab, but that face-diaper you wear will stop it.

IF surgical (or ducky print) masks work

Why do any businesses need to be closed?

IF surgical (or ducky print) masks don't work

Why are we compelled to wear them?

Tobra 09-06-2020 06:29 AM

Just get one of the thin, home made cloth ones that don't do anything I see everyone wearing

Well aren't you just as sweet as you can be...

Don't get any Covid in your eyes now.

For the OP, I know you said no mesh, but this might work against Karens

Knitted material is porous. You might google "knit" or "crochet" face mask and see if anything pops up. You could make a band type mask out of a baby size tee shirt.

Anything that covers your face is a mask. The guidelines/mandates aren't about promoting health or safety - that's why anything goes.

Not to indirect PPOT cancers.

vash 09-06-2020 08:26 AM

That’s like wearing a fake condom.

If I’m gonna go thru the effort, I’ll try my best.

My fishing gaiter is for sun. It’s perforated where I breath. I pulled it down and donned N95 when I went into a Mexican meat market near the fishing spot. My gaiter would have been enough visually to get me past the cashier.

I see. You feel JUSTIFIED in being nasty.

You know, you said ".especially when doing nothing landed everyone in this mess.

That is complete fabrication.

IOW you are LYING to us.

People took all kinds of preventive measures and yet this virus flew around the world in no time.

So, are liars part of this cancer of PPOT that you speak?

Or is your petulant ad hominem reserved only people that counter your absurd posts?

McLovin 09-06-2020 11:15 AM

If the US response was “doing nothing” I’d hate to see what “doing something” would look like. 😳

This virus will not survive outside of a water droplet.

This has been explained to you before.

Why do you continue to post mis-information?

Not sure where you are located, but many places have a medical exemption for mask wearing. Of course you would likely get confronted by people.

If you can’t wear one for medical reasons, it would seem to be respectful to wear a face shield so your spittle (love that word) isn’t going directly at someone, or look into a powered face mask that has a fan to move the air through the filter to make it easier to breathe.

Victim is a ridiculous look on you.

Yeah? Then how does it survive for hours, and even days, on dry surfaces?

Stainless Steel, for example gives a 5 day survival. https://www.webmd.com/lung/how-long-covid-19-lives-on-surfaces

Dear Nutball,

I hope you DO understand that a virus particle loose in the air is different from one cohered to a surface?

There are courses in surface chemistry if you don't
