Guillermo del Toro

Before the new Star Wars movie, one of the trailers was for 'Antlers'
Guillermo has done some great movies including..'Pan's Labyrinth'..'Crimson Peak'..'The Shape of Water'.
A well-done supernatural/horror movie is the best..imo. Will definitely see it.

Crimson Peak the outdoor and indoor castle shots were all done 5 minutes down the road from me. They built and tore down the castle in just over 6 weeks, but infrastructure started a couple of months before that and the castle was prebuilt. They did it on a small peak 250' you could easily see it from the main highway, one night I watched them move blue screens around. It was very big that's a working elevator in the movie.
If you want to build a house there it has a road in and hydro.

Shape of Water was attocias, if this movie even closely resembles that then hard pass.

My wife and I were looking at each other after and during that movie with WTF looks on our face.

Will look into this one but will probably wait for netflix or something streaming as SOW was a crapshow.

Once you get over the beautiful design his movies are grindingly dull.

del Toro is one of the great filmmakers of our time and Fox Searchlight has put out some fantastic movies recently. Jojo Rabbit as I've posted and seeing A Hidden Life tomorrow.

Whoever cut this trailer is an expert, it's nearly perfect for this kind of movie, probably shouldn't have shown a creature, would have been tighter.

As much as I like his films, I'm not one for horror. Knowing how well he can tell a story, indeed show a story, he's visually brilliant, Antlers will be exceedingly scary. Probably won't see it.

I agree that 'The shape of water' wasn't his best. But..'Pan's Labyrinth' is a masterpiece.

I just watched "The Shape of Water" on Netflix.
I enjoyed it. Some humor and weirdness all mixed together.

I just watched this with my GF... We've always enjoyed foreign films but this was something else and I'd also describe it as a masterpiece!

Ivana Baquero (Ofelia) & Maribel Verdú (Mercedes) really stood out but the whole cast was just brilliant.

It's a great movie.
I think it would have been watched by more...if it hadn't been labeled as an adult fairy tale.
But it is...and it's done perfectly.
I'm hoping 'Antlers' will be at least half as good...I'll be happy with that.

This and it's in Spanish. People generally don't like reading sub titles.

One thing that did stick out was the Spanish women... Damn sexy IMO!

Not in spanish on dvd. I haven't seen it on Netflix yet...but I doubt it would be subtitled there either.

Edit: I see now that netflix site says subtitles in english or spanish

I watched Pan's Labrynth again last night. Loved it again but I think I like The Shape of Water better now, maybe because of the gothic or dark romanticism; it's so visually striking and stimulating, scene after scene. I didn't remember the story exactly but felt like a few things were telegraphed too much. Who knows.

In finding this thread again, I found this from 2007.

Movie Norbit = Horrible...

Wayne must have posted about a movie called Norbit, no idea now. Great to walk down memory lane now and again.

I just read the link from above. ^^^^
Unbelievable that movies like Norbit were even made.
I forgot how bad most of EM movies were. Can't blame him for dropping out.
I will watch 'The Shape of Water' again...I'm sure there is more to it...than I saw the first time.

True, not scientifically possible, but it both sucks, and blows...

The story is beautiful, the visuals are stunning.

When doing a search for del Toro movies, I found this, emphasis mine

The Films of Guillermo del Toro Ranked from Worst to Best

Still del Toro’s masterpiece (although a few more viewings of The Shape of Water might cause me to revaluate the rankings), Pan’s Labyrinth is the filmmaker at the top of his game. It’s the darkest of fairy tales, following Ofelia (Ivana Baquero), a young girl who has been uprooted from her home, who believes that the only way to find salvation during the Spanish Civil War is when she encounters Fauno (Doug Jones), a woodland creature who commits her to completing three tasks so she can be reincarnated as a princess.

Thinking more about Labyrinth tonight, the Pale Man scene is what bothered me now, didn't then. I understand the scene, I think the entire thing could have been more clever especially given del Toro's gifts. It was too blunt. It could have been longer and more interesting.

My sense is Pan's Labyrinth could be an even better film if he had written it today.
