firesmoke map

This is a map forecasting the spread of smoke from the wildfires. It covers Washington and Oregon and a bit of northern California even though it's a Canadian forecasting tool. I can't speak to its' accuracy however.

From where I sit, 90 miles South of Portland in the Willamette Valley, looks fairly accurate to me. Seems to me it's constantly smoky, but the thickness of the smoke changes from time to time...not days of time, fractions of an hour. Goes lighter, giving me a bit of hope for relief, then I get clobbered with more dense..

how do you adjust the view to move the back border further south to see the entire state instead of just the north portion?

here's a good one for tracking fire size, intensity and such. https://caltopo.com/map.html?fbclid=IwAR2NtpOyB9csI8i0U1QgSGQBGUjO4RDm gyBlipMgNFpD0wupcBNi6459SkM#ll=37.90628,-120.21893&z=11&b=map&a=mba%2Cmodis_mp

you will have to pull the view back to get beyond where i saved it.

Is is just us that have these wild fire burning out of control or else where in the world too?

RWebb 09-11-2020 03:00 PM

worldwide, tho at different times and from different ignition events )e.g. farmers burn the Amazon to grow crop, then move to another area in a few years after the soil is depleted)

you don't recall seeing the news about the Australian fires a few months ago?

look 171 09-11-2020 03:04 PM

I remembered the Australia fire. I am talking places like the China, India, or forested areas in S America? Its hot there but not so dry like our climate, maybe they don't have much wide fires?

Rtrorkt 09-11-2020 04:01 PM

I can tell you by looking out the window. Things are BAD in Northern California. AQI is 200. Google says it is 110, but google is evil.

The country should sue California for allowing the tinder to pile up like that.

creaturecat 09-11-2020 06:33 PM

the feds control 57% of the forest.
mentioning the cut backs re: cleaning up the fuel? that's verboten - so we won't go there.

Wasn't some Fed guy last year famously ribbing the CA Gov about raking the forest floor to reduce fire? ...and then got ridiculed by the media... Seems it was someone important. hmmm...
