Just wondering...what is the distance from earth to venus, compared to earth to mars?
I wanna go..but I don't have 30 years left to do it.

You don't want to go to Venus. The surface temp is so hot lead is molten, and the atmospher is poisonous to boot. Only the Russians have landed a probe and it only lasted a few seconds before it was cooked.
I have not seen a single study on going to Venus. Since it is a smaller orbit than the earth it is likely easier to get to and from. The big issue with Mars is we always leave when the trip there will be short as possible, but by then Mars is on the other side of the sun from Earth. They have to stay on Mars a while waiting for the planets to be on the same side of the sun. The distances are simply vast.

I bet this just turns out to be some exotic chemistry we haven't discovered yet due to the crazy conditions on Venus.
Time and time again, once we see something new and go looking, we find that nature can do almost anything chemistry wise... only cause 'we' didn't know about it.

But Due to the orbit shape, etc, Mars is closer more often than Venus. Last edited by tcar; 09-16-2020 at 10:08 AM.. |

Of course. BUT Mars can be as far away as 249 million miles away. That is why the "launch window" is only every two years.
