Have mercy. Somebody please build a time machine...
...I need to go back and experience this in person.
But thank goodness for whoever filmed it. <iframe width="799" height="536" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-y8G9t0aJ60" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I need to go back in time and not date Lisa *******.

A form of racing we'll never get to see again...
Imagine stepping outside your doorway or enjoying the view from your balcony while a few feet away the latest factory prototypes race by. There doesn't seem to be the same amount of film footage from the Targa compared to Le Mans or some of the other European circuits. |
It would be far more difficult to film the Targa as you would need crews and equipment spaced over many miles. Lemans would be relatively simple.

I noticed the spectators were almost exclusively (>90%) male.
Obviously not a surprise. Just a shame. Too bad we love something that women don't. |
That’s pretty epic, thanks.

You watch the race. I’ll be poking around elsewhere in time buying $1 worth of a mega lotto ticket.
I’ll get lunch, when we get back. |

I used to read about the Targa Florio in study hall in the 1960's with the Road & Track stuck inside a text book. Henry Manney wrote of some hero driver of the era "leading the race until he smote a wall at Campo Felice." Eleven, 45 mile laps around the Sicilian countryside and a few towns. If you abandon your car on the circuit, most of it would disappear before you could retrieve it.
The last, great, true, European road race. "Let's go sit in an impact zone to get a better view," prolly seemed like a good idea. What could go wrong? |
Don't know how they walked, with attachments that big.
