what a fun weekend toy this could be
Was searching local CL as I normally do and found this kit car . I really like the idea of this build not sure why . To my eye it has the right look and with air cooled roots it is simple in design . If I had the extra coin I would consider looking at it . Just curious if you guys like it or not ? Yeah it's a slow rainy day here in north Georgia

I have a soft spot for old Healeys, since I had a '54 & '56, both 100-4s. I put a Corvette V8 in the '56, so I don't think I could stomach a kit car w/ a VW engine.

I wouldn't set foot in a VW powered kit car. I have toyed with the idea of getting an unfinished MG TD kit that fits a VW pan with the VW power train and selling everything but the actual fiberglass. I'm sure If I looked long and hard enough I could find a Ford or GM frame with drive train to mount the body on even if the frame was clipped.
The most important part of my idea here is to narrow the fenders to make it a TC. The back has to be redone for 2 reasons: the kit allows for the VW engine and the TC back was much straighter anyway. I think some chrome 18" wire wheels would make the thing handsome and yet nothing to be afraid of driving to the store, etc. Those are the real deal, so it would take a bit of imagination. I got lots of that.

I'm always left feeling a little let down when I see a ''classic'', and when I start to get close, it turns out to be a kit car. Exceptions being Porsche ''replicas'', which seem to fit in my brain as somehow vaguely authentic in spirit.
If something like that turned up in my lap for next to nothing, that would be a great part of the appeal for me. Last edited by DanielDudley; 09-25-2020 at 02:55 AM.. |

The big healey has such a perfect exhaust note it would be absolute sacrilege to put a VW in a clone.
I would be down for something like the straight six and MT from an e36 m3. |
