A real Cuban sammich .... mmmm

I didn't even have to go to Tampa ;). A strip mall Cuban place closed about a dozen years ago ... it was the real deal .... no Dominicans there :D. Haven't had one since then, so I purchased one from a small food truck I'd heard about ... had to drive a few miles .... and worth it. The real thing, from a real Cuban. I'm in Havana heaven right now....

I like a Cuban sammich!

American cuban sandwiches are far better than anything you'll get in cuba

porsche4life 10-01-2020 04:08 PM

Mmmmmm I love a good Cuban. Panera has them on the menu now, but they are only OK.

Will have to make a trip to the local deli that makes a really good one now that you posted this.

Yum! Second favorite sandwich!

(which components?)

Ahhh, I didn't know what a Cuban sandwich was so I google imaged it.

WOW.

Now I'm REALLY hungry.

john70t 10-01-2020 04:45 PM

I don't think any of the main actors are Cuban...as in Miami or otherwise...but it was a feel-good movie which made a person hungry:

We have La Bamba and Mambo by where I work.

Mambo was featured on DDD with Guy Fieri. I know what I’m having for lunch tomorrow

Lucky for me there is a really good Cuban cafe on the island. Great owners and the food is wonderful!

Dude, you're killing me. I've had a decent Cuban here in Houston a couple of times at a greasy downtown lunch spot. THe old lady that runs the place calls everyone "baby" and makes a great Cubano. I was shocked. I've had 3 or 4 others in Houston that were horrible.

I do miss a Cuban from Tampa or Ybor City.

I'd say every component. In 2017, I spent 2 weeks in Cuba, divided between Havana and Varadaro beach. Food, was universally pretty bad, from high end restaurants, to bodegas. Trade embargos have real effects. ...they just can't get a majority of ingredients. The govt wants to export quality stuff...the garbage stuff stays in country. For example....it was REALLY hard to find orange juice anywhere, even though oranges are prevalent. Seemed like a Russian version of Tang would be all you could get for "orange drink." Even out in the countryside, the food was just very, very limited. Meat is a rarity...most live on beans and rice.

need to test out a real Cuban vs. Vietnamese vs. Italian vs. Whatever else I forgot. No offense implied.
[edit: my final vote would be yes]

One of my fav's . Just had one the other day in the Outer Banks, first time I have eaten out in a restaurant since March

ckelly78z 10-01-2020 05:38 PM

I'm not a fan of pickles, but I do love me a good Cuban sandwich, it's been a long time since I have had one though. I prefer Reuben sandwiches with a good bowl of chowder on the side.

mid-nite is better and smaller with sweeter bread then the flaky dry cuban bread
more like a soft sweet roll bread
but the same meats and cheese

WPOZZZ 10-01-2020 07:21 PM

Why you want to put your cigar into a sandwich, is beyond me.

2.7RS 10-02-2020 01:36 AM

I thought Panera had an authentic one??? Not...

asphaltgambler 10-02-2020 03:30 AM

Could someone list the proper ingredients here? Wegmans started offering these fresh last week, we almost bought a couple. They looked good

KFC911 10-02-2020 03:42 AM

Salami or no salami? I think my first Cubano was in Tampa decades ago, but I don't remember it having salami... or any that I've had since. If it's not "Cuban bread" it isn't one either.
