Twice.

But, when I wear socks, my Eastern European high jumper girlfriend insists on sock, shoe, sock, shoe.

Does everyone else have to sit down to put socks on, or do hop around trying top maintain balance ?

The one foot hop is why the Meathead is absolutely spot on... sock, shoe :D

I prefer just boots. For my wife.

I sit my old butt down or it would be: Sock, fall, shoe fall, sock fall and break a hip.

Ambulance ride with one shoe on...embarrassing.

But what about Tai Chi? Doesn’t anybody know that to successfully arrive at Tai Chi…one must first accomplish Sock Chi and then Shoe Chi? That’s right!

To do this exercise correctly…first lay out your socks and shoes in front of you - then, without touching the ground with your hands…lift a foot into the air and balance on your other foot. Now, staying on one foot…reach down, grab a sock, and pull it onto the other foot (the one that’s in the air). Then, do the same with the other foot (always on one foot…and no touching the ground!) You have now arrived at “Sock Chi!”

Now…onto Shoe Chi. As for Sock Chi…with a foot in the air - reach down, grab a shoe, and pull it onto the correct foot…while that foot is still in the air. Then, do the same with the other foot…only allowing both feet to touch the ground at the same time after your shoes have both been pulled on. Good! Shoe Chi is yours!

Finally, onward to Tai Chi! Lift one foot with untied shoe into the air, and tie the correct overhand and bow knot while that shoe remains in the air. Now do the same with the other shoe. Got it? Good! You’ve finally achieved Tai (tie) Chi!

...but to achieve true mastery...you must do all three steps, but with one foot at a time...never touching the ground with that foot until you've arrived at Tai Chi with that foot!

While the above is a bit difficult…you will, assuming that you’ve actually succeeded in achieving Tai Chi, experience a newfound sense of accomplishment and, dare I say…enlightenment!

Now…where is that second glass of bourbon? Which reminds me…do not attempt the above exercise with a BAC of above about 0.8 (happens to be the legal limit here in Vermont) - could be dangerous!

...time to check back in with the Bikini Bottoms thread!

I tried this.

I tore my Achilles

Standing while putting on my socks has been part of my daily regimen since my hip replacement and subsequent rehab. I was thrilled to have that much mobility again after years of painful arthritis and the satisfaction never gets old.

Once in a while it takes two stabs (get the sock on mostly, drop the foot, lift up again and get it high and tight) Too dangerous to hop around. If it's not there in one stab, tomorrow's another day.

Laughter is universal and that would be why they watch us.

Thankyou.

"Old Men Putting on Socks" would also make one hell of a coffee table book, easily eclipsing Madonna's 'Sex' book on the NYT bestseller's list.

-just imagine the look on your special someone's face as she unwraps that on Christmas morning.

back on topic. kinda.

you ever get really lazy and try to pull off your pants, (like ski pants) without taking off your boots. all you do is make a easy job really really difficult?

in reverse:
pants, shoes, socks. ?

Oh Geeze, it's a process. While sitting, line up the shoes and the socks on a bench. Raise one leg, put one sock on at then the attendant shoe - repeat other foot. It's the only reasonable way.

Every time.

With my topsiders, it’s no socks, no sitting and slip them on standing up.
