Estate Sale Score Grill

How'd I do. I got this for $30. Needs a fair amount of cleaning and new burners and ceramic tubes. Its a 30" dcs grill with rotisserie. Must weigh 200lbs plus.

The house where I picked it up is currently up for rent at $11,500 per month!

Will take all of the tips I can for cleaning SS. Seems like parts are relatively inexpensive on ebay and the dcs site.

They go for around $3k new so I'd say you scored. Clean her up and fire her up!

Nice score. There is an outfit here that is dedicated to BBQ cleaning and resto. Might see if anyone up there does the same. I'd gladly pay a couple hundo to have it restored and could easily justify it, given what those things sell for new.

Spent some time scrubbing tonight and ordered burners, ceramic tubes/trays and ignitors. Got the light up rotisserie parts and shelving cleaned. Might be up and running by next weekend if shippping times are decent.

Put in quite a bit more time this weekend. Installed new ignitors, fabricated a bracket for the infra red ignitor that disintegrated when I touched it, refinished the rotisserie bracket and lots more scrubbing. Replaced all off the screws and bolts I removed with new stainless hardware. Just waiting on the burners and ceramic tube trays. About $300 in parts so far.

While you’re at it, take a look to see if there are any aftermarket remedies for preventing the flareups that these things are notorious for.

I am cursed with owning a similar product and I hate the goddamn thing.

Can't you just use indirect heat? I have a lowly Weber gas grill and I just turn off the middle burner.

That's what I have to do to cook things like chicken thighs, burgers or steaks. Heat the damn thing up hot on one side, turn that side off and the other side on, then close the lid. That allows the fat to drip down through the grill but keeps it from igniting.

Keep the fire going on the side with the fatty food and it will char it. As in, turn it into charcoal...

I should have the rest of the parts by the end of this week (hopefully), looking forward to testing it!

I am a total bbq rookie, been using a portable weber for almost 20years. My wife has been after me lately to get a "real" bbq. So here we are!

Don't give up the Weber. If it burns charcoal, it will cook tastier food than the DCS. Neither is good for BBQ, that requires a smoker.

Not trying to burst your bubble, just pointing out something you ought to look into before cooking your first ribeye or chicken thigh.

I've seen lots of commercials for anti-flare-up products, just haven't looked into them as they relate to this particular style of grill.

What did you use to clean it up? It looks like it worked well whatever you used. I generally hit my SS Weber with Barkeepers Friend

I was wondering if you'd found something better than BKF but the stuff is hard to beat. I was going to chime in with what I use but you had already started and looked like you were pretty much done. It's good stuff!

Parts continue to roll in! Just waiting on a new rotisserie safety valve and that will be it.
