AA mask policy

On an AA flight yesterday from TPA to ORD.
Passenger right across the aisle from me was wearing a gaiter/homemade mask.
Attendant approached him about not having an approved mask and he resisted.
She brought a disposable mask for him to wear and he was getting very irritated.

His voice was getting high enough that people 20 rows up were twisting around to watch. I thought sure they were going to bring out the zip-ties...we were already in line for take-off.
The attendant was very patient and trying to calm him down..but he was getting more and more agitated.
Finally...after she told him they were going to pull the plane out of line and force him out, he agreed to wear it. Sitting four feet from him, I was watching and sure enough as soon as we were in the air...he took the mask off.

Nothing else was said to him...I noticed that whenever one of the attendants walked down the aisle...they made an effort to not look at him.

In the middle of his arguing with the attendant, he stated he had a breathing problem.

I think he had more problems than that.

I recently flew first class on AA, and as long as I had some scotch left in my glass, no mask necessary. Thank God, we're all safe!

^^^ How did you get scotch on AA? They have a no-food..no-drink served policy since covid.
You can bring other drinks on...but not alcohol.

It was three weeks ago in first class. All the booze I wanted and no mask required when eating or drinking. I wonder how much disease I spread, roaring in laughter while watch Curb Your Enthusiasm.

It was something like $130 each for the upgrade. I had to check two bags, one of which was a rifle. So that would have been $60 right there. I figure I paid the other $200 for comfortable seats for Mrs. Lee and me and then the food and booze. Bonus that I didn't have to sit with the plebes!

One other thing I noticed about the flight....the plane was the newest revision of the 737
All the seatbacks had holders and plug-ins for each passengers smartphone to watch a wide choice of movies or tv. (instead of a seatback screen) Free internet.
The overhead luggage containers were huge! A person could sleep in one easily if needed.

Also...when boarding, all passengers were given a zip-loc bag containing crackers, water and sani-wipes.
After we were cruising...he emptied all of the bag onto the floor and spread it around with his foot. It was a mess...crackers smashed all over.

Domestic first class. AA is the only US carrier to offer what they call first class, which they run between DEF and HKG. It’s really just Business Class Plus but it’s still pretty nice.

Yup, I remember getting dressed nicely to fly First Class. The local BMW GM was on my flight and he was dressed like an Aussie schoolboy, dress shirt, blazer and shorts.

Let’s say his tinfoil hat assumptions are right...

He’s still enough the a$$ to risk everyone else’s health if he’s wrong.

It’s just not that hard.

This is timely ...

Notice how the aerosol's redirected to the sides by the "proper mask" .... so yeah, sitting next to someone wearing that amounts to being in the line of fire.

Better strategy is to turn the fresh airflow on full blast to your face or even better, don't fly, if you have to avoid the virus.

The trick is to take the mask off after the plane takes off.

^^^ That's what this guy did afterwards....but the whole problem was him not wearing an approved facemask.
The plane was still taxiing to the gate, and he took off from his seat and headed to the back of the plane. I think he was trying to hide amongst others on exit.
