Does a dually need a spare tire?
Someone I know who owns a construction company told me that he doesn’t put spare tires in his dually trucks. He says if one of the front tires blow, simply use a rear tire up front until I get the blown tire fixed. It makes sense to me. What do you guys think?

Sounds reasonable. Just need a HD floor jack under the back seat.

Not all the wheels are the same on a dually, the fronts have a negative offset, and only one set of lugs on two tires in the rear.

Unless the SOB goes flat when you have a load on. Been there. Had to call for the spare.

Yes, if you are not carrying a spare tire, you need to carry an extra jack, or get really crafty on the side of the road ( read dangerous ) .
Then , you get the joy of removing, 2 really heavy bud wheels, and all of those big tight lug nuts twice . I just carry a spare .

A Dually has room for a full size spare, so bring it.
If you have roadside service you just make a phone call and someone comes to your truck and changes the rims for you. I don't carry spare tires for my trailer as the car I tow in it has the same rims. So I just grab a good tire off the car in the trailer and put the flat on it. ![]() |

In that case you need to carry 2 spares.

I am a dually owner but don't claim to be an expert . But I am under the impression ALL dually wheels are the same that's why there is just one spare . If you need a tire on the front or the inner rear you mount the wheel/tire in one direction/offset . If you need the spare on either outer rear then you turn the wheel around for the opposite offset .
