Rubberising floor jack wheels

Thinking about using rubber and contact cement.

Nice looking floor, but why would you put a floor down that couldn't stand up to a floor jack being rolled on it?

It's Rock Solid Copper Pot. I really, wanted to upgrade the look of my garage and thought this was the best looking. Even though it's very durable, the metal wheel would scratch the floor. Thought after applying, there would be a remedy.

I'm also, going to close in the furnace and water heater with 2 doors. I'm putting a vented transom above the doors and vents in the doors. I need a formula to determine the size of vents in each door.

I have a similar jack/ wheel deal. My garage is crap, but I might think about gluing a strip of inner tube a couple wraps on the wheel. Probably a better solution. Needs to be somewhat thick.

I'm sure that the right product would work. My concern with most things is that they won't be sturdy enough. Put 2 tons on a floor jack and the wheels may cut right through regular rubber.

Otherwise, an idea might be to use bicycle inner tubes of a smaller diameter than the wheels that you could cut so they'd be like an open ended cylinder the width of the wheels, then slip them on. Maybe worth a try. Maybe there are some puncture resistant innertubes that would work, or maybe using 2, 3 or 4 layers of inner tube would work.

Hey, here's a thought if you could get something of a size and axle size that might work.

Maybe some kind of hose would have appropriate id to allow you to glue it on.

Actually, that's a great idea. If he can run to a parts store with a caliper and go through their radiator hoses. Those may be tough enough to withstand the weight on them. Hell, that's worth a shot even if you don't have a fancy floor. A rolling floor jack has got to be one of the most obnoxious noises there is. It's right up there with a ringing circular saw blade.

Do they still sell bicycle inner tubes? Sections cut the the right width and stretched over...extreme low profile slick tires. Probably a lot of tires in one tube.

Yep. My concern is that the first time you jack up a tire, the weight on the rubber will cut right through, but maybe if it was a tight fit of a radiator hose, that might (or maybe not) be more likely to hold up.

2' x 4' hardboard cheap at home depot. Put one under the jack. I keep a few squares around for jobs like that.

I use them with new hardwood floors to move fridges and ranges.

Why not coat the wheels in the same material?

I do like Captain Ahab's solution. It's quick and easy.

Either way, get the wheels as smooth as possible first. - it's all about distributing load. Small high spots will push thru.

I have a container with plasti dip liquid in it for dipping wrench handles and such in it and bet it would work just not sure how durable it may be. The other thought is the radiator hose idea. Get one barely smaller then the wheel and heat it and stretch it over the wheel and let it cool.

Either that or go to a master Carr or Grainger.com and find some non marring wheels that’ll work. They’re the same size of some old skate boards. I wonder if you could buy a cheap skateboard and steal the wheels off of it.

Good luck. Floor looks awesome.
