fall colors

In this area...SW MI...the colors are really coming on now.
A pic of one of my trees...the phone cam doesn't show the vibrant colors.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1602278257.jpg

Nice.

We don't really get much in the way of fall colors here.

At our old home, we had a maple tree in the front yard. The Houston weather would be warm and sunny, then we'd get a crazy cold front that would hit Houston, the temp would go from 70s and 80s to the 30s and 40s. I've seen that maple tree go from green to yellow (for about 2 hours) to brown and nude in 24 hours.

We also have "popcorn" trees (Chinese Tallow) around here. They will actually do a little better on the color. But they are invasive and don't do well in high winds.

I don't think I've seen much color since I lived in Japan.

The hardwood trees show the best colors here.
The tree in the pic is a hardwood maple..but it's on it's last few years. (prob 90 yrs old)

I have a similar sized black walnut tree that is dropping it's fruit every day. I have shoveled up at least a dozen wheelbarrows full of nuts in the last few days.
If I don't pick them up....they get ground into the lawn by the tractor...and that just makes a mess.

I have the most gorgeous sugar maple in my front yard that turns bright orange. Since I’m in a high fire area I was told it had to be cut down because it’s too close to the house. I’m not going to do it. Fall is the best time in my neck of the woods. Colors, mild temps and no bugs.

We have a grove of black walnuts on our property. We even thought of naming our place "Walnut Grove." The only problem is walnuts are nasty trees. They lose their leaves early - they just turn brown and fall off - and the damn nuts are a menace. Fortunately we have a local lady who collects green walnuts to make dye and she keeps them picked up.

Whatever you do...keep the local lady happy. Even if it means paying her to pick them up! SmileWavy

99% of the population of the US would never believe that is Oklahoma. I have driven the Talimena driven many times. Great area.

Beautiful! Love trees.

I noticed as I was driving up to Huron how things were really turning up there more than here in NW OH. The further North I got, the more color I was seeing. The color and the 75mph speed limit made for a nice drive.

One of the nicest drives I've ever done was the Talimena Parkway. Gorgeous!

stevej37 10-10-2020 03:36 PM

In the last three days here...the tree colors have gone from mostly green to full reds and yellows.
I can't remember ever seeing them change that quickly.
Autumn in Michigan is amazing.

The https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g42110-d2229283-Reviews-Brockway_Mountain_Drive-Copper_Harbor_Upper_Peninsula_Michigan.html in the UP was amazing. Perfect pavement. Empty. All hills and twisties. An explosion of colors everywhere. Now gone Automobile Magazine had it listed in their top ten drives.

Harbor Haus Restaurant - Copper Harbor, Michigan food at the end of the trip. OMG good.
(uh, now closed for the 2020 season because of..)

It's great to have seasons. The weather isn't always perfect, but I've never lived in a climate where the seasons were "hurricane", or "fire."
I'm good with winter, spring, tornado, summer, fall and no fires or hurricanes.

I had never heard of that! Beautiful part of the country, I’ll have to make that drive at some point.
