Vw gti mk8

anyone in europe have one or try one out yet? i was shocked and horrified when i saw the interior.......no buttons! but i’m very impressed with the driving tech and i don’t mind the exterior except as usual, the ridiculous looking rims

i’ve had 5 VWs and promised myself i would never make the same mistake again but, i’m tired of driving a big heavy truck and with the focus st no longer being sold here, i don’t have any options for a manual shift hatch....don’t like honda’s and don’t like the wrx. we won’t get the MK8 here until late next year so i have time to figure this out i guess

if anyone has any experience with mk8 i would like to hear about it

What's wrong with Hondas? My 2006 Acura RSX Type-S may have the best overall car I've ever owned.

ramonesfreak 10-11-2020 03:38 AM

i havent liked honda styling since the 80s. Do they make the Acura RSX Type-S still? I drive at least 40K miles a year so I need something new, or almost new, for work

Newish Golf R? My son just traded his in. He's getting transferred soon and moving early 2021. If I needed a daily driver I would have bought his 2016 from him. I loved driving that thing.

what is up with 4 doors... GTi should be a 2 door only

2006 was last year it was made. Any one you buy will likely need work.

new golf r will not be offered with a manual best i can tell. i just wouldnt buy a used VW unless i knew the car well. otehrwiwse, i would prefer an R in this climate. also, i had a dsg trans and didn’t like it so no new R for me

I get it, but to me the door has better proportions. I like the functionality of a 4 door hatchback. My next car will be a Golf R 4 door. If I could have sold my car quicker I would have one now. Will have to suffer through with may current car.

i’ve had 3 golfs and 1 GTI and always had the 4 door, or 5 door i think they call it. looks much better to me than the 2 door and way more useful to me

I’ve owned golf gti s mq 1 2 3 4 5 6. Mk3 was the worst piece of slow ****. My current mk vi is going great at 70k.

I have had GTI's from MK1, MK2, MK5 and currently have a heavily modified MK6. The MKVI is one of the favorite cars I have owned. Yes it is heavily modified, but so were many of the 35 or so Porsches we have owned.

The MK5 was a standard and I wanted a DSG for the MK6. The DSG is great. Stock shifting profiles in D and S are not great stock, but if you get a DSG flash they improve greatly. Of course you can always shift it yourself via paddles or the lever.

My son is now searching for a MK6 to replace his modded MK2 Jetta.

Cheers

Had to do some injector work on a friends Mk7 GTi. A surprisingly comfortable and fast car. Was not like any other same year VW Ive worked on. much better build quality. Germany built?

Thing really woke up with a flash and some wastegate/exhaust mods.

ramonesfreak 10-12-2020 04:38 AM

i had a mk6 with dsg. loved it except the dsg. at 70k miles after the fluid change service it developed a shifting issue where it felt like it was slipping. dealer couldn’t figure out what was wrong and because i regretted not getting a manual anyway, sold it
