I prefer to eat the brat, then drink the beer. Let the two mix in my bellay! But I also do my Jack and Coke the same way.

That should be interesting. Looks like they used an IPA.

The best way to make brats is to boil them in a real hoppy beer until they’re cooked. Then either finish them on a hot skillet until they get crispy on the outside or put them on a charcoal grill and grill them until they start to pop open. You need the texture of grilling or frying to finish them off but the beer flavoring makes the brat.

I’m not sure if I’m at the right meeting.

I’m Wil, from NJ and I’ve never had a real brat.

I think this needs fixing before the weather turns. Or does it taste better if I grill them with my snowmobile suit on?

This seems so simple, there has to be more to it? Any more details?

Whats an appropriate beer? How long am I cooking them? A roiling boil or a simmer?

What kind of bread, what else goes with them or on them?

I do brats by slicing up several large onions, and putting them in a large EZ Foil pan. Pour a bottle of good German pilsener over them, and season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Put the brats go on top, and cover the pan with foil. Put the pan on the grill over medium heat for about 20 minutes, uncover, and move the brats to the grill for about 7- 8 minutes, turning to brown evenly. Great brats and onions every time.

What's your fav topping for brats?
Hot dogs I normally top with just mustard. Brats...not so sure.

I just noticed that I misspelled the title of this thread.
It should read 'Bell's'

I do sautéed onions and red bell peppers on top with some spicy brown mustard or dijon. If you had the two hearted ale on hand, you toss some of that in with the onions and peppers.

Yes, Sir. Same here. Great value. Cook them on the little Weber propane grill at the shop. Fancy ballpark mustard or horseradish "dippin'" sauce.

We make about 15 pounds of brats every fall using 3 or 4 recipes, with varying spices. If you want a beer flavor to your brats you can't go wrong with MRM's suggestions, but frankly, if you find a spice combo that you like, the beer cooking is secondary. You DO need to boil them in something however, so why not a hoppy beer?

Here we are making brats last fall.

Well, MrsWD actually said it was amazing (re-run the video) so I assumed everyone else would agree.

We do it the Nurnberger way, either grilled or fried in olive oil and butter.

Slap it between some brotchen slathered with scharf senf and you’re done.

Do you know what sort of spice mix the store brands like Johnsonville use?
I've tried a few recipes at home, and mine are missing something. I can't figure it out.
