Storing Black Gas Pipe
I mentioned in a previous post that I acquired 5 21' x 1" gas pipe from my company after shutting down a plant. I probably won't do anything for a long time but eventually installing my tankless water heater and moving heater to attic.
My question on storage: is it ok to store under my house with end caps installed and should I cover with any type of grease to prevent rust? My house is on a raised foundation and basically dry underneath but it is subject to outside air blowing in thru vents. I would also set on top of bricks or something to keep off the sand. I want to get off my driveway before winter and rainy season arrives. |
It should be fine where you describe. I'd check on it occasionally and there are rust converter coatings should rust appear. Not to be used until there is rust and can be wiped on with a rag.
Yes on caps! |
Just don't let ATF folks see it. They will think you have huge pipe bombs. ;)

Caps are a must to keep out crawly critters. It wouldn't hurt to spray them with WD40.
