Letter to my kid's band teacher...

So my 10 year old has started band finally. He got a trumpet in the instrument draw (thank god). His first class with the instrument is tomorrow and he was supposded to watch a video on the school website about how to clean it and play his first note... the video in NOT on the school website.

I was speaking with the principal earlier today (I am the Chair of School Council) and I brought up the missing video... anyway, we never heard back so I sent this email to the band teacher and cc'd the principal...

Hi Mr. *BANDTEACHER*,

Clayton and I have spent quite a bit of time looking for the online video on the cleaning of his trumpet and how to play his first note that he was supposed to watch before class tomorrow.

We cant seem to find it anywhere on the School website. I reached out to *PRINCIPAL* earlier today about where we might find it but never heard back.

Clay has watched a youtube video on how to play the first note(s) and another one on how to clean a trumpet. We were quite amazed that you can just put a brass instrument such as a trumpet in the dishwasher and then run them through the dryer on the knits / delicate setting. Good thing he didn’t get a tuba – it wouldn’t fit in our dryer…

Anyway, we will see how this dishwasher technique turns out…

Well that was quick. He got back to me in minutes suggesting we don't use the dishwasher and recommended against the dryer in no uncertain terms...

He sent a link. It wasn't on the school's website...

Maybe a leaf blower! And if you get it just right, you can play the thing while you dry it.

I had an "instructor" in my Executive MBA program that had assignments like that - referencing material/information that was not available where she stated it was. Or assignments that were not physically possible - like the requirement of "signing" an email document being sent to her.

My CPA sends every email with an electronic signature. It is an attachment of some sort.

I would guess it is a service he has to pay for, and pretty unreasonable for a teacher to demand that of students, unless it is some secure financial or legal document.
