Gemballa

They made some nice, some not so much.

I saw the 911 they made for someone that called themselves "Vanilla Ice" and it was horrible looking. It was almost a cartoon of over the top ugly. I had never heard of Gemballa then and I was not impressed. The fit and finish was something from a high school auto-shop first year student level.

The intersection of too much money and poor design choices has never been more prominently on display.

Great news for those owning a stock, classic Porsche. Your value just went up.

I still like the slant nose, but not those. Gemballa really made some FUGLY cars back then.

masraum 11-06-2020 09:21 AM

I was actually surprised by how many of those didn't look horrible. I guess all/most of the Gemballa stuff that I've seen has been their ridiculous, over-the-top crap like the Vanilla Ice car.

A few were just nice looking slant nose cars.

In my mind, the ultimate street slant nose is actually the mid-90s slope nose with the 928/968 style headlights.

One of the local PCA members has an original prototype slant nose right from Porsche. The factory took it down flat then realized there were no headlights, and they stuck them in the front bumper valance. It has the proper documentation to prove it was a very early factory built slant nose.

That's the one other good option to me, no pop-up lights, but lights in the bumper. They may not be as effective if/when they are that low to the ground though.

There were a few in the gallery that looked decent enough. Some looked like they were made in some drug house.

ok, which one was that?

The slant nose is really a particularly fugly car... and the cab takes sucky to the stratosphere. Ugh.

Understand its development for racing, but, jebus, Awful.

flipper35 11-06-2020 11:13 AM

OK, nice enough.

My friend Frank showed me his factory 1989 slantnose 930 Cabriolet. The factory build quality was ...."prototype" level.

In Germany they were always known as the pimp tuner of choice. Uwe Gemballa was an illustrious figure too, maybe a bit too close to organized crime himself. :(

As an ignoramus and interloper, I ask you do these wonderful machines really need that wing?

red-beard 07-10-2022 04:52 AM

It is sometimes sad to see these dead threads with posters who are no longer with us.
