Dog spray?

There's a loose dog in the neighborhood that we have never seen before. It maybe a new owner or new dog that has gotten out. I am terrify of dogs and siht mypants if they jump on me. We noticed it for three days roaming up and down the street now. Its looks to be well groomed not wild, living off the hills. It barked and came at me today so I jumped into the bed of someone's truck asap that was closest to me. Who the hell decided to make the beds so damn high on these newer turcks? Fook me. He barked, circled for a bit and went off on its own. My wife was laughing her ass off watching me from the window. How effective are those damn things? I know Halt doesn't really work too well unless its get the dog right in its nose. I use to carry it when I was riding a lot and chased a lot too. No, I don't conceal carry, and no, my hand isn't on the nuclear trigger button. No time to flip that useless cover before it bites my ass. I am thinking about spraying it so next time it comes at me it will remember I have what it doesn't like and hurts so it will STOP.

What do you think. Don't tell me to feed it and make friends. Remember, I am terrify of dogs, large one, small one, they all bite my fat ass.

You need whatever perfume Cliff's wife wears.... apparently it has an amazing effect on dawgs .

Seriously .... I dunno. Dogs sense "fear" (which at this point I doubt you conquer) and that doesn't help ya much.

Mebbe low octane pepper spray or whatever Neuman carries?

.....and take those damn hotdogs outta yer pockets!

I think you should spray some halt in the face of the dog's human.

If you can't tell....I take a dim view of humans who let their dogs run loose.

About the truck bed heights.....as a landscaper, I bought my Silverado because it's bed height is normal - that is low enough to load stuff in and out with least amount of effort. It's a 1/2 ton and 2WD, 8' full box. No idea why these other guys are running those jacked up versions!

Dogs generally do not like to be surprised with a 'spray'. Put some cold water in a Dawn bottle.

Bottle with water/vinegar works well also.

If I saw you I would be laughing as well, not in a mean way but seeing an adult jump into a truck.

Yeah, I didn't know that I can gold medal in the high jump neither. A little fear goes a long way. She was rolling on the floor, finally was able to open the window just to show me she saw the whole thing while cracking up.

Only if I know where that dog is coming from.

I got out of the house like I normally do, as I was walked across the street, not thinking there's a wild animal that's about to eat me, the big dog came out of nowhere, gave me about three loud, low barks, then charged at me at full speed. I was thinking, what the fook did I do?" This was 10 min later when I finally do to the bottom of the hill. I see that damn dog there now sitting on the middle of the street. I have no idea what kind of dog it is. Not a German shepherd that much I know.

I love dogs, but if one came at me it would be talking to my boots.
Had a conversation a couple of days ago with a friend who thought it was nice that people let their dog roam free on a local forest walking trail. I'm like. That's not cool at all. Not everyone likes dogs.

I really rather not chance it if the surprise doesn't work. I don't want to hurt the dog neither, but I like him to remember that I am doing to do something that's going to make him uncomfortable so he doesn't do it again.

I like having water bottles and bear spray on my bike. Gives me a choice. I try to go for the water first. 80-90% of the time- just water.

In my experience, both will temporarily stun/confuse the dog, but the dog will decide to resume the attach sooner if it's just water. Water keeps "nice dogs nice".

What's amazing, is how if a dog's really out to get you, the bear spray will just stop him temporarily, and then he'll resume attack, then you have to hit em' again.

I've never seen a dog hurt by pepper spray. Usually they just stand there. Some will rub their faces in the grass momentarily and then go on their merry way.

They never "learn a lesson" though. If anything- they will be at the same corner next week.

I think you need a 'this won't hurt' option, and a guaranteed back up. Bear spray or wasp spray. I would not want to use the last two, but if a dog came at me I would do it.

I live in a 'leash only' area, but lots of people walk their dogs with no leash. Those people have too much faith in my humanity. If their dog runs at me, it's going to regret it.

Carry a stick. Like a walking stick or cane. Dogs seem to understand that.

Scared? Who said I was scared? There you go putting words in my mouth again. I only wanted to check out the bed of that new truck! Friends my ass. I search the net this morning and I am suppose to stand still with both legs open, or wider stance and that tells the dog to back off. That may work or it might bite what little balls I have left. I talk to my neighbor, he thinks its an Akita. Some type of bear hunting dog from Japan according to his tales. It charged at him too, with his little boy on the way to his car. His wife throw the stroller at the dog and it stopped. He laughing as he's telling me this because he now knows about the truck bed that saved me.
