A Porsche "recreation" I can get onboard with

usually these "updated" or modern takes on old classics turn out to look awkward or plain ugly to me, but this caught my attention and I think they did a pretty good job, even if it's 7 years old now.

Your link didn't work...maybe this one will? Pretty neat, tho I doubt I'd want to drive one on a USA freeway full of giant SUV's...

I don't think I've seen this one before.

Flawless?

Well done at the very least.

I love the swoopy design, but that would be rather scary in traffic. One hell of a canyon carver though !

Fast Freddy 944 11-13-2020 04:28 AM

Looks like a Ferrari boxer profile on the back, looks weird..

I'd drive that like a screen door in a hurricane. Wait, that's not right.

I think you understand though.

It does look nice, and if it was built by VW it should have decent build quality. I would have to see it in person to decide if it is really that good of a concept.

doug_porsche 11-13-2020 06:16 AM

Man just think how history making it would be if Porsche and VW partnered on a midengined two seater car!

914 puns aside.

Being a previous 914 owner and a previous Lotus Elise owner (1940lbs 190hp), I say

Heck yes!

biosurfer1 11-13-2020 06:54 AM

I wonder why they kept it hidden for 7 years??

Porsche needs to do something. I drive by the local dealership all the time. You would never know Porsche was a sports car (GT, Fun car) company. Looks like a fun factory for rich soccer moms. I don't even bother to stop and look at the cars anymore.

Regarding the car above, where are the bumpers? When I click on the link, the picture is fuzzy. Maybe I am missing something. As seen with the Boxster, the concept and the final version can be much different. Love the 986 body but the 986 concept was killer. I wouldn't hold my breath regarding ever seeing this car on the road.

if you ask me , a regular 987 looks more like a 904 then this contraption (and looks better)
replace the rear hatch window with a flat deck and a small vertical window and voila a modern 904

Little bit bigger, but then again, all cars these days are bigger then their ancestors due to regulations

this concept.. the ass end looks way to low and weak to be a 904. It's more like a 906 or 908LH

Superman 11-13-2020 09:25 AM

It is no longer possible/permissible to make a car like the original 904. Unsafe (translate: Too much fun). LOL

to be fair.. nobody would be impressed with a 904 like car, it wasn't high power compared to the other top end sports cars in it's day..
it was light, it was dead reliable.. but it was not high power at all.

imagine the reviews if Porsche built one to the same concept..today
They would end up with a Lotus Elise like.. and people would snub it if a Porsche had such crude build finish in 2020... And rightly so.. I wouldn't want a Lotus for the same reason , no matter how much fun they are at the track, they are just built to cheap for my taste..interior is just uggo on an Elise..
I like my Porsche to be fun off on track, and still be usable and comfortable outside the track.... I think a Cayman does the trick.. Maybe they could lighten it a little bit.. but knowing Porsche they would just charge more for deleting things and I haven't got that money anyway :D

Nowhere in that article does it say VW had anything to do with this concept. Quite the opposite — Porsche engineers were eyeballing VW's XL Sport and took it too the next (Porsche) level.

It’s beautiful, but needs a ducktail and a Porsche engine
