VR headset is amazing.
I expect VR is an advantage when racing again non VR sim drivers. My Oculus headset has bit of screen door look to it, not as clean as the big screens. Also you can't wear glasses under the headset. VR seems to make people more motion sick than the 3 screens. On my sim when you are on VR the 3 screens do not correctly display what the VR driver is seeing. So if others are watching they can't see how well the VR driver is doing. Is that common when wearing VR headsets? |
I held off on the vr for now due to the aforementioned screen door affect. Waiting for the Gen I suppose.

All the reviewers of racing games using Sony VR headset say it is incredibly realistic and immersive. I really want to get one!
The big criticism is that the things you can do in VR are limited, you don't get online game play and full races etc. I heard that PS5 will have more VR options, unfortunately I just bought my PS4 pro. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aoYgApHoemM" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Eric, with your penchant for building stuff, I just have to show you this:
https://www.leobodnar.com/shop/ I've messed around with flight simulators forever (currently running X-Plane 11 on an older Linux box but having it working OK) and built myself a "sim chair" this summer. Keep thinking about building up a full set of controls but haven't collected parts yet... |

VR headset isn’t for everyone. I loved it when racing, but when the car spins and bounces around randomly it’s instant barfing for me. Try before you buy.
|
I might actually try a racing sim program with a VR headset and a decent pedal set and steering wheel that I can put close to the computer. I do not want a full size chair and three huge monitors. I don't have room for that.
I have the computer power to run it, just no steering wheel or pedal set. In the end, I can always just go drive my 911 in the real world. |

Although in the real world I can't get my 911 on most of the available sim race tracks. I'll never get to drive Spa-Francorchamps in my 911, but I did drive the Spa track yesterday on the sim. :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1606060116.jpg |
I've been using an Oculus for over two years and never, not even once, got any kind of motion sickness, dizziness etc. For those few that do, I've heard it helps to close your eyes for a few seconds until the car stops, but even those people get used to it quickly...
I bought a racing seat and wheel pedal setup and have them sitting next to my desk and use the same computer to play iRacing games. Doesnt take up much room at all.. https://www.trakracer.com/ |
The GTR simulator cockpit showed up. Took a bit to get it assembled. Waiting on all the other bits.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1606154338.jpg

Eric,
Showed your set-up to The Wife. She LOVES it. Then she did some figuring, decided how we could use that money to buy XX cows and feed them to finish until Spring/Summer, try to turn a profit, and put the money towards a good use like fertilizer for the hay field and retirement. Missed it by THIS much! I need to see what is available on the Oculus Quest. Have a couple games on that system I seem to like but have not looked for a racing one. May be the closest I can get... So, yes, colour me jealous! Really nice system! |

I raced a couple years with the Rennlist guys, but that kind of dissolved. |
