Current BaT customer
The topic has been well covered, but I'll add that my June 2019 buying experience on BaT (912E-3.0) was above and beyond my expectations. I texted quite a bit with the seller during the last 3 or so days of the auction and had a positive vibe that he was straight-up and the car was as-described. And both cases still hold true. We still chat on the phone from time-to-time as well.
Here's my current listing. As others have said - it's just as much buying the seller as buying the car. Long distance purchase and sight-unseen requires a lot of confidence. I think BaT is the best way to reach those currently interested in a classic Porsche, a restomod station wagon, a Unimog, or my ho-hum 400hp Mazda Miata! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1994-mazda-mx-5-miata-55/ |
Timely thread. I'll be putting a 94 E320 on BaT soon.

Timely for me as well and interesting discussion. I have an Adriatic Blue 914-6 that was immaculately restored and converted to very accurate GT spec with a 3.2. Very much like the one that 911R listed and was bid to $103k, but mine is a real six and looks just a bit better (accurate). I am planning on listing my car there this fall when it gets back. I would like to try Paul at AK, but I do not want the shipping expense.

Good luck Shaun, I'll be egging you on from the frontlines.

Bring a trailer could be called Bring a Porsche. lol
Helped friends with their Bat videos on a couple cars last month, excellent results. Listed 2 of my own cars on Bat, the 911 never reached reserve but the high bidder did buy the car after the auction. Bat is a funny experience for a week your car has massive exposure but you know as a seller once the auction ends you're back to listing it on less active for sale sites. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OTWDdwwTPRo" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ThP0JXL8jmg" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vuQospkNKB4" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I certainly hope Shaun doesn't use his Canon to take pictures of his car.
Remember Shaun, like the ad says 'When the picture counts, Nikon.' |
haha! I'll be using the Nikon.SmileWavy

Good!

as i understand the process it's best to hire one of their photographers who do great things in presenting the car and helping with the add. you don't write the add, they do with the info you provide and sometimes they don't see fit to accentuate things the seller finds important. be aware any reserve they offer is non-negotiable and that can be hurtful.
many in the pelican marketplace forum have sold there and study it to the point it's creepy. try them. |

When I sold a car there, I held out for the reserve I wanted. It was negotiation and they wanted the car enough to agree to my terms. It sold for a bit above the reserve. |
