Is there 30-06 ammo anywhere?
I picked up a 30-06 black Friday deal at Cabelas.
It might as well be a complicated stick as I can't find ammo anywhere. Any insider info on where I can get my hands on some? Even if I have to back order at least I'd know I was in the queue. |
I was going to suggest CMP, but I couldn't find the surplus 30-06 on the website

I was at Dick’s Sporting Goods today buying clay pigeons for tomorrow’s skeet shooting ($8.00 for 90)...a lot of what you need.
I can send you some if need be. |
Wow! There is nothing out there!
|
I guess I haven't been paying attention. CMP stated after the Greek Surplus purchase they would have 30-06 "for years to come". I guess they came and went.
I checked all of my usual places on-line and everything is sold out. Gun Broker, there is "some" for around $2/round and UP! |

Local outdoors places seem to have it pretty consistently along with shotgun shells and other hunting rounds like .308. Not the big box stores, more the local places and farm/ranch supply shops. Do some calling around, I bet you’ll find some.

I think 30-06 is plentiful around here. If I can help ya out, let me know. I can check a few places to see what's available but I think Dunhams, Rural King and Stock and Field all had some a few weeks ago when I was in looking for pistol ammo.

Thanks! I'll keep looking local. The shelves will probably be stocked again next week.

I hunt with .30-06, but the reality is that I typically only fire 20 rounds a year. When you have to make a choice as an ammo manufacturer as to what you will produce in a given year, is it really important in an market?

A couple of months ago (2-3) I saw a bunch at Walmart, 223, 30-06 and a some other rifle and shotgun calibers.
|
You have to find private sellers, people who are getting out of whatever caliber or platform, widows whose late husbands were mass reloaders. Plenty of gun chat boards in most places. I've done very well this way.

What are you shooting at? How many gr bullet?

There is plenty of soft-point on Gunbroker. Not cheap, but not too bad either.

I saw 9 mm and .38 S on CTD for just over a dollar per round! I just can't bring myself to fork that over.
|
The ammo will be back long before next hunting season. In the meantime, if you just want to shoot the darn thing and get it zeroed, I have no shortage of my handloads on hand. 180 grain Sierra Pro Hunters and 200 grain Nosler Partitions. I shoot them interchangeably between three rifles, so they should be safe in yours. We could meet up and head to the gravel pit in Darrington...

Yeah 9mm is 0.80-1.00 a round. Cheapest I saw was $600 for 1000 of steel case wolf. Which is nuts as i bought a few cases for 200 bucks at the beginning of the year.
Rifle calibers are cheaper which is interesting. Glad I bought my resupply before covid. |
My nearby range and retail store of choice has 9mm at $150 for 300 rounds on a regular basis. So it’s out there.
