White vehicles

Is white paint really that cheap? In traffic today and made a conscience effort to look for white vehicles. Driving by business's and the number of white cars in the parking lot were in the 80% range. Is it a conspiracy to take away choices in car colors?

White is the best color for a clean looking car.
Black is the worst.

(Both being after non-washing.)

Was never really a fan of white till I got my Subaru. Warmed up to it, and now my minivan is white as well. I’m digging it.

And I’m sure there’s some science behind manufacturer’s color choices.

Not sure. I know that the majority of fleet vehicles are white. Here at Kia, we do produce a lot of white pearl vehicles, it seems to be a very popular color choice.

Some of the "warm" whites are really nice.

I once saw what I would describe as a pearl white early 911. Beautiful.

^^^^^^^ This. I drove a black Cayman for nearly 7 years. Prettiest car ever. Constantly needed washed. When I built my truck I would have painted it black had I not been burnt out from keeping the Cayman clean. I painted it white and am sooooo glad I did. White and black seem to be the cheapest paint you can buy.

I've never liked white cars, and I figured out why-
When young, I built quite a few 1/25 scale model cars.
The excitement of tearing the plastic off and opening the box to see all these wonderful plain white plastic parts, with some chrome towards the bottom.

White was simply unfinished.
No way was I going to leave a model plain white.
So many wonderful colors to choose.

My paint supplier, who is an ex-car painter, said silver is the hardest color to match correctly.

My 4Runner was white and my current F150 is white. It's a color that never goes out of style.

My only problem is I worry about the paint. What's with those vehicles (multiple manufacturers)that have that peeling white paint that comes off in sheets? Was that never covered under warranty or class action lawsuit?

Had a 1970 911T in "light Ivory". I liked the color...

My SHO is black, Ebony Satin to be exact, hardest car to keep clean. I also have a Nissan Quest that is Nordic White Pearl and it is easy to keep clean.

White cars tend to be 20-30* cooler in summer so if you live in the south, expect to see a lotta white. We ran a fleet of service vehicles and they were 90% white. Every once in a while I would buy a truck that was @ fire sale prices in dark blue or dark green. Both of those were like ovens in summer. Every time you got in it felt like the atmosphere of Venus and took 30 minutes to get it cooled down under max A/C.

I am down to 4 cars now and 3 are white, one is silver.

My 911 used to be metallic bronze (lets be honest, brown) so I changed the color to silver. Phew, huge difference.

Back in the brown days If I left for the day at the beach it was like an oven inside. Now it's silver it's much the same temperature inside to what it is outside.

After having a late 80s Nissan pick up truck in black, I’ve had white pick up trucks ever cents. They just stay cleaner.

Good question on the peeling paint. Ms. Rockets 2010 Tahoe is peeling paint just behind the top of the front windshield. It’s probably up to about 12” x 8”. I have to hit it with some GM spray paint every so often.

Never, ever get black paint on a daily driver..

I wouldn't consider white either, but I bought both a used Cayman and a Macan S that are white. Now I really like that color. Carrera White.

White is a smart choice of color for a car.
It lasts a long time,
it is easy to keep clean,
it doesn't get hot in direct sun,
it doesn't fade,
it doesn't need to be waxed often
to make it look good.
