Just received my prop tax bill....I might hold off paying.

Arecibo was completely archaic, and hasn't done any real research that I know of in many years. It was being run by SETI last I heard.

That being said...it was a boon to Puerto Rico, maybe the only science being done there. There were visiting observers, and staff, and conferences, and all of that meant money back in the hands of an impoverish part OF OUR COUNTRY.

Rebuild it? Never. Worthless. But the exact same design should be implemented in a radio scope on the far side of the Moon, fashioned in a crater.
